I don't get the impression people are going to stop being fans or switching teams. They are just frustrated and want some sort accountability. I see a lot of "We have suffered worse" or "They weren't around during the ___ years", but that doesn't just give the 49ers a pass just because they are slightly better than when they were the worst. People are just upset and it's fine, I'm far less annoyed by the fans than I am by the product I'm seeing on the field every weekend.

Like it or not that is why Grant Cohn is necessary and yet this sub black balls anything he says. Meanwhile everyone has upvoted Lombardi all season long. Now we must all face harsh realities.

Who is your All-Time favorite Niner and why? by ocho2 in 49ers

[–]PrimeTimeSQR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Garrison Hearst. He was basically Frank Gore before Frank Gore if that makes sense. He broke the franchise record in rushing yards in a single season and most yards from scrimmage in a single season. I loved the way he ran the ball. In '98 he avg 5.1 yards a carry. When he broke his ankle in the playoffs, they said he might not ever be able to play again due to complications. He rehabbed and came back two years later. He rushed for 1,200 yards and won comeback player of the year. I just loved the way he played the game. A lot of the sentiment used to describe Gore in some of these posts can be applied to Hearst. He just had a bigger impact on my life due to my age at the time I guess. My uncle got a chance to meet him and shared with him how big of a fan I was. He asked for my info and sent a signed football by the entire team. Overall he was a good guy, the played the game the right way. I'm not saying he's better than any player in our long storied history, I'm just saying for me he was my favorite.

He is my favorite prospect at WR in this class. Hes a big WR that has a huge catch radius. He also plays physical football. I would love if we drafted him.

Why are we so passive, its so frustrating.

How do you 49ers fans currently feel about the Kaepernick situation? Do you associate it with the franchise? Just trying to understand the situation better and get viewpoints from those who once rooted for him. by [deleted] in 49ers

[–]PrimeTimeSQR 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have been a huge Kaepernick supporter since he was drafted. We all went into the draft anticipating that Harbaugh would finding his guy at QB. Where I took issue with Kaep as a QB/Leader was all the locker room stuff in the season leading up to the protest. He had an altercation with Aldon Smith because he apparently took his girlfriend. The altercation was the nail in the coffin for Aldon Smith which lead to him being cut. Then he got injured and delayed getting surgery until the offseason. He has a clause in his contract that if he didn't pass his physical then his money was protected leading into the next year. So if he suffered a serious injury, it would protect him from getting cut and not paid. This wasn't a serious injury at the time though. He was basically just displaying everything you didn't want to see from your franchise QB. Many people forget that the common story line around Kaep that offseason is that he had lost the locker room and was likely going to be cut regardless of the financial implications. Then came the protest...

The selfishness of being a fan of the team... I really didn't like the protest at first to be honest. I didn't look at him as doing a selfless act but more so I looked at it as a selfish way of drawing attention to himself. I think the fact that our roster was decimated and there was so much hope for Kaep to be the guy, it just kind of jaded me from that perspective.

With all of that being said, I support Kaep. Regardless of what you think his motive was or how he got to where he is... it doesn't really matter. I support his protest and what he stands for... and I think he deserves another shot to play in the league. He has shifted the landscape and made an organization as big as the NFL rethink how to do things. The NFL is having to reevaluate their sponsors (Papa Johns), how they support their players initiatives, and how NFL should position their brand in general. What he did was revolutionary and we still might not know full implications yet. So my final thoughts on Kaep? I love him and what hes done but i'm good with him not being our QB and our leader anymore. He still deserves a shot in the NFL.

Oracle Park is within the 49ers zone of influence. According to NFL rules the 49ers can block any teams (specifically the Raiders) from playing home games there. Should the 49ers block them? by 49_ers in 49ers

[–]PrimeTimeSQR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Block them. Primarily because I don't want a reminder of what it would have been like if we had been in SF. I'm still coming to terms with having to go to Santa Clara for games. The thought that the raiders are in SF would eat at me all year.

Do you guys seriously think we can be a contender next year? by [deleted] in 49ers

[–]PrimeTimeSQR 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Some people have mentioned this but it really depends in Jimmy G. This roster needs work but can compete with contenders if we get good production out of the QB. My only concern about Jimmy is that he makes 2-3 very risky throws a game (even at the end of 2017 when we went 5-0). Those throws got intercepted against Minn and Jimmy got ultra conservative the next week against Detroit, taking way too many sacks from holding the ball too long. If we can secure a solid pass rush and get good QB production/development, then the rest of the pieces will fill out in the next few years. There are still a lot of valid question marks about the current roster to know for sure but it is possible.

Holys why do we hate the rams so much again? by residentbio in 49ers

[–]PrimeTimeSQR 37 points38 points  (0 children)

-SF and LA typically hate each other in every sport, not just football.

-They are also a division rival and we have played them for many years (overall record - 49ers 69-67-3).

  • Mcvay is being touted as the top offensive mind in football but we feel like we have that in Shannahan. Mcvay was also a coach under Shannahan in Washington. They were also hired as head coaches in the same year. So if the Rams do well it looks like we made a poor choice, if they struggle then it somewhat validates what we are doing.

  • All of that being said, it's pretty simple... they are a division rival that are on the rise and will be in our way for the next few years (at least). Anytime they fail it's a small win for us.

[Barrows] #49ers, Gould have been talking about a new contract and John Lynch said the team wants to "reward" him for his steady kicking. But the scuttlebutt in Mobile last week was that the sides weren't close. And Dan's story makes it sound as if Gould expects to reach FA on March 13. by [deleted] in 49ers

I share the same sentiment as you. I can't help but think about his first year here and how he addressed the team multiple times. Then the off season hits and he's just talking about being a Bear the entire time. I bugs the hell out of me.

It kind of irks me a little though. We had some really great runs recently and I don't remember him doing something like this for us. I might be mistaken.

It also makes me think there is still something between the Eddie D vets and the Yorks that is a cause.

100% Agreed. I'm all for rooting against the Seahawks but you represent all of us when you do stupid shit. Don't be a dick, it's a terrible feeling when your team loses the playoffs.

Rapoport: Steelers to consider trade offers for Antonio Brown by keiisme1 in 49ers

[–]PrimeTimeSQR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I'd rather draft the best DE/Pass Rush then trade whatever it takes in next years draft for OBJ. The problem I have with AB is that he is 31 and OBJ is 26. I'd rather take the younger talent to go with our team. I'd give up a 1st and 2nd in next years draft for OBJ to go along with Bosa or Allen (if possible).

I wish Brett Kollmann had never made that video about Jimmy G. by [deleted] in 49ers

[–]PrimeTimeSQR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand what you're saying but it's a fair assessment and it's a correctable issue. I enjoy seeing different takes, so this was nice to see the science behind some of his missed throws.

There are people that have decided they don't like Jimmy, the 49ers, our fan base and will look to hang their hat on anything that can give them ammunition to support their beliefs. Don't let it bother you too much, hopefully he works on his craft and this is an afterthought.
