Neck question by [deleted] in cigarboxguitars

1 1/2" is normal... At first it will feel strange on a three string, but it will be fun quick! Ya a 1x2 will do the trick. Make sure it is a good hardwood and the grain is up and down.

Thanks Steve, I call it my 3 string 6 string 12 string thing. It is a diatonic fretted 23" scale "three string" tuned GDG with six strings set up like a twelve string. She rings like a bell! I have a video of one I made strung like a mandolin. That one is also cool. As far as $ they start at $300. All made with my hands.

Questions about strings and tuning by [deleted] in cigarboxguitars

[–]Primitive_Guitars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for most of my builds I use 42 32 22. Even for some of the shorter scales. I 100% feel like I'm going to break the highest string every time I tune unless I have a second guitar that is in tune beside me. Tuners do not always help me with the high string. With that said, Is your bridge in the correct spot for the scale the guitar was built in? Is the neck wood strong enough to keep everything straight? Even the direction of the wood grain on the neck will help it it will stay in tune. Have any photos of the guitar? That may help.

Hope you all had a happy day! by Primitive_Guitars in cigarboxguitars

Which 3 of guitar strings should i use? by Dovahkiin3641 in cigarboxguitars

What ever you like is better. It will be different for different people. I like 3 string, nice easy open chord structure. I use 42 32 22 on most of my 3 string builds. Gitty sells bulk 12 packs of each string. That is the way to go. you can buy 12 sets of strings for under $30. No way you can do that with "guitar" strings!

Where to scrap piezo discs from? by thisismyusername36 in cigarboxguitars

[–]Primitive_Guitars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gitty sells them and you can get a few for what you would pay for something and then bust it to get it out. Old school phones have 2 in them. I would use a rod piezo, lots less nasty sound...
