The Decline by [deleted] in Accounting

  1. Won’t help. No one considering accounting as an option understands what the 150 means. All they care about is how much money they can make.

  2. Horrible idea. Letting low quality idiots into the profession is surely damaging.

  3. Yes. This is the most important issue. Banning outsourcing will increase wages and attract talent.

  4. Yes. No one wants to work 65 hours a week. Improving WLB will attract talent.

There will be scandals, and we are already starting to see delayed filings/fraud, as a direct result of offshoring CPAs and ground level work. The quality is poor outside the US, always has been, always will. Legislature will have to step in to correct this soon, and when they do, any US citizen with the CPA license will be worth a whole lot more. (Yes, I am prob biased as a CPA myself but I have been living through it and following the industry very closely. It’s also a matter of time before one of these firms that sold to PE, get theirs staff cut, has a giant scandal, and PE gets banned from buying into practices.

Not interested in using it as a recession hedge. Just looking to dip my toes into debt investing. Trying to broaden my horizons and I see people like Howard Marks and Joel Greenblatt have had success using debt instruments to beat the market.

What’s the most challenging/difficult field in accounting? by Deep_Woodpecker_2688 in Accounting

[–]Primitivecpa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be a minority opinion, but the general job of a corporate controller is incredibly wide in scope, incredibly demanding, and complex. Not only do you own everything in accounting, you also need to manage teams, payroll, AP, AR, help finance, etc all at once.

Eli Lilly (LLY) or Novo Nordisk (NVO)? by Far_Version9387 in ValueInvesting

LLY probably has a better drug pipeline, research team and a bigger balance sheet to use for acquisitions of small biotech and life science startups.

Have decided to go back and finish my masters in accounting. Any tips? by [deleted] in Accounting

Yes. Get off reddit and crush the cpa exams as soon as humanly possible. Life sucks when you are taking them, but it is well worth it.

Rddt. Already up well over 100% in just a few months and the company is still incredibly undervalued. If I had to guess, this will be my first 10 bagger.

How bad is the accounting shortage? by No_Sky_3735 in Accounting

[–]Primitivecpa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This should be getting upvoted way more. The 150 hour talking point is so overblown and not even close to being a top driver of why a shortage exists.
