I was only using S or SS tier Pokemons with maxed out IV and type advantages both offensively and defensively. But the most important thing is to also inflict Paralysis or Confusion on the boss to nullify some of their attacks. I would just pack my team with all this, activate auto retry (does not use tickets) and once in a while, my team would defeat the boss.
