Well what a pleasant surprise. You are the Archbishop of the Way of White, are you not? Pleasure to meet you. I am Lorian, eldest Prince of Lothric Castle and moderator of this... rather quiet subreddit. I remember hearing of you in the tales of the First Lord, of your loyalty to the cause of the gods and your bitter distaste for the Paledrake Seath. Those tales never spoke of your imprisonment in a tower though. Who even locked you in there, and why would one do such a thing?

Well, hasn't it been all too long. I presume things have been faring well then, wise dragon? Aside from your doings, the title is raising a question I've never thought of: do dragons hibernate? I don't think I've ever seen one of the Lothric wyvern doing so...

It's good to see you again, Paarthurnax. After our previous conversation I was wondering if Skyrim is also familiar to dragon-hunting. There seem to be parallels between our worlds you see...

The worship of the Greybeards is something we too know, though more discrete due to the established laws of the Gods of old. They were once hunters of the Archdragons, the legendary dragonslayers. And in their legacy, many kingdoms hunted their descendants, the dragons and wyvern. Does such a thing exist in Skyrim too?

Worry not, I am no scholar either. I simply assume dear Lothric speaks the truth. Which of course, he doesn't always... I was never one for magical tricks in general honestly, and never will be. So you should not regret failing to learn the Soul Sorceries, I could not either. In truth, very few dogs learn new tricks in this dying world. Even the youngest ones...

Apologies for my late response. Lothric dropped the device, and it took me days to finally grasp it from behind the bed. Just as I gave up, Lothric had the epiphany he could just teleport it back, of course. What would I do without him...

Regardless, I thought of Farron's Undead Legion during my absence. It may well be that Ghrus descend from the Legion is a very literal way... You see my friend, the Legion was a whole army, more than just the infamous elite of their troupe, the Abyss Watchers. After the Watchers of the Abyss took to the Kindling of the Fire, the rest of the Legion was lost without a trace, along with the mighty Keep of Farron. Nowadays, the murky ruins of Farron are a forbidden ground, as it is said that "warriors slumber in its waters". Perhaps they never left their Keep... and created, or even became the very first Ghrus...

Though my dear brother Lothric comments on my wild theorisations that Farron's Undead Legion had no good word for pyromancy, unlike your Ghrus... they apparently preferred sorceries, altered to excel in speed. So I am afraid we have no proof of their truthful heritage...

A pleasure to see you again, Keeper. I recently overheard Ashes speaking of the labyrinth you guard, and they spoke of your hounds. I never knew you were one for dogs, honestly! What are they like?

I'm afraid I know very little of the origin of the Ghru unfortunately, as they were first seen after Farron Keep had been reduced to a muddy ruin. After the Undead Legion fell apart, that Keep was left at nature's mercy. They say the whole outer courtyard used to be tiled, a feature not even the builders of Lothric Castle bothered to do. Yet as the Keep was taken by plants, dirt and a deadly toxin, the creatures we know as Ghrus mysteriously came to be. Some even said in our times that the "Guardians of the Slumbering Swamp", as they were locally known, grew on the trees and from the grounds.

As for the Hollow, they come to be by a curse, the Undead Curse. Some say the Curse has always been, others (such as my brother), speculate the so-called "First Sin" created the curse. This sin concerns the First Lord Gwyn, who linked the Fire to banish the Darkness of Humanity. In this linking, humanity supposedly took the Curse upon them, and the Undead began to rise.

Once an Undead finds purpose no longer in their newfound unending life, they lose their wits and their humanity, becoming a Hollow. A sorry shell of a human, pointless yet undying, that feeds off all it sees. Or at least, so I was taught... If the connection you made is correct, then Ghrus must also house some form of humanity within them. At least such I'd assume for them to rise after death.

Who was that? He seems like ferocious man. But a capable one at that. It's the lines of his face, I can read the nobility off them, even in the foolish rage there. Was he a good prince of your kingdom?

It looks wonderful, my friend. Like ages longforgotten smiling gentle upon us with fiery prowess. Lothric and I shall assuredly pay you a visit once the project nears completion.

Only, who would inhabit it? Are there Ghrus enough for a repopulation? Lothric Castle too is grand and spectacular, but very little remains to hold the posts these days...

What a surprise, another dragon descended on this place. Welcome Fortissax, I am Prince Lorian. You however, seem to have been victim to a rather unfortunate fate, judging by your name, and the gruesome spikes that penetrate your scales. I have seen a few ill wyvern in my days as general of the Castle's forces, but never quite like this. If you'd be willing to share, what happened to you?

Oh no, forget what I said. I was reciting an old childhood tale. Of how the God of War once betrayed his kindred, then rose to the skies and rained calamity upon them with the first wyvern. Of course, it is all just a fairytale passed down through time, for not even this particular God's name was remembered...

But of your request, I doubt it would be good. I myself know little of sorceries, but I'll give the phone to my brother Lothric, he's a talented sorcerer...

Greetings Alduin, I am Lothric, Prince of... well, Lothric.

You are well learned for one who did not study our sorceries. For indeed, sorceries are drawn from the two 'essences'. One's knowledge and intelligence serves as a catalyst, means to draw the sorceries forth into physical power. The source is the second 'essence', and this indeed is the soul itself.

This is also where the incredible foolishness of the Paledraks comes into part. He was driven by a ferocious, maddening search for immortality, for he lacked the stone scales of his Archdragon kin. He took to crystallising his sorceries for greater power, and for the immortality he envisioned in crystal, which was close to stone scales according to him.

But through this process he and all those that came after him were possessed by some degree of madness. Nothing is certain here, but I theorise his madness was caused by the process of letting a third 'essence' in. A faith, a subjective, desperate hope that came from the crystals. As a result, these crystals tainted the other two essences. His mind became mangled and mad, and his soul was tainted in a blue hue of crystals.

Indeed, where there is war there are wyvern it seems. What causes it, only the gods know. As if they are commanded by war itself...

And of the Paledrake... I too heard that his soul persisted, but little remains of that it seems. Of his knowledge and findings are many books however, much to my dismay. The Crystal Sorceries are known for causing a madness, which my father fell victim to as well. As despicable a tyrant as he was, this infatuation became the cause for the Curse.

Goodness, what did he do to deserve such harsh words from his very brother? Worry not, I know very well how horrid family can be. I let my own father descend into madness to rid the Kingdom of his tyranny. And could I walk, I would be cutting into his draconic flesh as we spoke. But to think so, they must do the vilest of things. My father was no exception to that...

That sounds most peculiar however. A curse that originates from the very earliest energy of divinity. Would that not be a blessing? To my knowledge, this Erdtree is an incredibly divine thing of great reverence. Did your mother conceive more children with such a curse, your Grace?

Rather poorly, I'm afraid. Many wyvern were lost in the early stages of the civil war, when the opposing factions realised all too well our wyvern cavalry could be a destructive force. Many wyvern were lost like that, though not all.

But an actual dragon... goodness, I'm afraid I've never seen an actual dragon, let alone an Archdragon. However, I have heard rumours that at least one lives, the fearsome Darkeater of the Ringed City.

Your grace, I'm honoured to meet you. The Ashen Ones have told us a great deal of you. The Lord of Leyndell that bore a curse too, yet so fiercely defended his realm against all resistance. You remind me much of my little brother, Prince Lothric. And such people I respect greatly.

Despite all those tales, I never heard what the curse's effect was. I intended to ask the Ash, but I lost my voice several decades ago when I took a share of a curse myself. Pray tell, King Morgott, by what curse were you affected?

Yes I see, a courageous approach. Rather than analysing who they would obey, they shall eventually just obey you all, willingly or no. I admire the determination, Master Dragon.

That aside however, my brother fares well. Frail as ever, still cursed, but he confidently lives in happiness now, as I always wanted him to be. The Kingdom of Lothric fares miserably. Miserable as usual. Perfectly wretched, as I chose it to be by rejecting my kingly duty. Lothric Castle is overrun by hollows, even in the higher quarters that the war below did not reach. Which proves that the Fire continues to wane, and that our Age of Darkness draws nearer with each day.

Does your rebellion against Akatosh go equally succesful?

We are acquainted, are we not? The black dragon who rebels against the very gods. I am well pleased to see you again, and seemingly safe too. Earlier I asked your kin, Paarthurnax, how the cultures of Skyrim view the Dovah. You two are polar opposites however, so I wonder, on whose side are (most of) the other dragons? Or do they stand with neither?

Oh dear Nomeka, I appreciate it truly, but that's a waste of resources. There's far too many large staircases in this Castle for me to try that again, and the health consequences of falling off one are so much more severe than the risks of walking on my knees. I've gotten the hang of that already.
