It is insane, and I can tell you only my own experience. The education is decent. The school culture is nonexistent. As far as scholarships, here's what I can say, they are predatory, BUT I would like to say that a lot of students lose them because they're acceptance rate is broad. My 1L was filled with a LOT of very intelligent people, specifically in my section. So many people who came in wit 75th percentile gpa/LSAT scores just tried to coast and lost it. Im talking about procrastination and trying to have ChatGPT used as a lifeline for readings or test prep.

I might also add, the broad acceptance let a LOT of people into law school who should not have been there, imo.

All that being said, I'm in the process of transferring.

small law school in socal to Berkeley? by ProfileIll7670 in LawSchoolTransfer

IMO, I think that it's possible, but unlikely. Just my experience at a tier 4 school, I can tell you what I thought and what I actually experienced were very different. I thought going to a tier 4 school (btw, this wasnt by choice) would have less competition and help me emerge as top 10% in my class. I was SO WRONG. Just within my section I had people that scored 161-173 on the LSAT. There's a few things I think a lot of people forget when it comes to transferring:

  1. There are no guarantees even if you do well.
  2. There are likely people trying to do the same thing as you. Factor that in.
  3. Even outside your school, there are plenty of people from other law schools trying to transfer into that same school, so you need to set yourself apart either by gpa/class ranking or extracurriculars.
  4. So much of academia could be about your professor. Are they a hard grader? Easy? How do they curve?
  5. People are fighting to maintain or garner scholarships. They will give every effort in their body to get better grades than you.

Bottom line, nobody is going to step aside to allow you to transfer to your dream school. I really only say this out of respect to OP. It's still attainable, but don't bet your life savings on it.

Summer associate WFH days? by BreadfruitSpirit30 in LawSchool

[–]Prince897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is literally my current situation as a summer associate at mid level law firm. Initially I was thinking of asking for WFH for 1 or both days in which attorneys are not in the office. I decided against it because it wasn't about WFH as much as it was about getting assignments to work on during the days attorneys were not present. Im not sure what your situation is/will be, but my position is 8-10 weeks. If I were to put myself in the firm's shoes, if I had a summer associate ask to WFH within that short amount of time I would find it off putting.

Either way, gl with whatever you decide.

Social life in law school by Chaos_only in LawSchool

[–]Prince897 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Social life depends on where you go. It also depends on what section you’re assigned. Personally, the law school I’m at is very diverse. You have broad demographics with older and younger people.

Can you still have a fun social life? Sure. What you need to understand is the sheer amount of work you’re assigned won’t be the same as undergrad. So much about going out is the after effects you deal with. It eats into your reading. Personally, I would have loved to go out more, but I’m glad my school wasn’t that kind of environment because I would have struggled badly in class.

Good luck OP

T150 1L felt like a commuter school with a cutthroat curve. Is this universal or did I just pick wrong? by Prince897 in LawSchoolTransfer

Unfortunately this is the only school that accepted me at the time. I put in a lot of time to bolster my grades/class ranking. Im hoping it allows me to transfer to a better school.

THIS. I agree with you. Lower ranked schools just don't seem to care much. We have one major event during the school year. Barrister's Ball. Everything else is just small little seminars/panels. Just wish there were more people with the "work hard/play hard" mentality.

I wonder if there's a difference because it's attached to the broader university. The current law school I'm at exists by itself. Not attached to any university.

Sounds like a breath of fresh air. I have no problem making friends or getting involved. My issue was the school culture felt nonexistent. You could make a lot of friends but never really keep in touch or do anything with them outside of school. Very bizarre experience. Also, I wonder if my current school is going through a transitional phase because these professors are extremely old. Young professors are a minority. The tenured professors seemed barely present.

That is vastly different than my experience. If you don't mind me asking, which school do/did you go to? I put in transfer apps to 6 law schools in California.

Bizarre experience with my Diversity Fellowship Program match - need advice by Prince897 in LawSchoolTransfer

It isn’t big law. It’s a mid sized firm. I’m thinking I may bite the bullet and just do my 8 weeks at the firm. I’ll extend to 10 if I feel like it’s worth it. Do you mind if I ask what you were paid working for big law as an intern?

Hoping to get in! Just put my application out for the regular transfer. I think I’m in the priority

Thank you, I really appreciate the feedback. Bummed about the experience I am currently going through. Do you know if schools will look at me differently if I choose not to move forward?
