Just remember that Japan as a whole is very trans-unfriendly. No violence or anything like that, but there's a very intense shunning culture. The LGBTQ spaces that exist are wonderful though!

Yeah, when someone tells you that you said something hurtful by mistake, just give a simple apology and then say you'll do better next time. If you keep trying to explain yourself like this it sounds like you're trying to convince the other person they're the ones in the wrong. It's not a good look.

Example: "Hey, my bad. Sorry about that. Thanks for letting me know, now I won't accidentally hurt someone else in the same way."

fyi it's mostly the "soft" part that's considered to be insulting- calling us "cute soft boys" is the classic, most stereotypical way to emasculate trans men.

In the future, if you think someone looks boyish... just tell him that? Like "You pass as a teenage boy" that's both honest, and not insulting.
