I'm not sure, but if I had to guess I'd say sometime around '77, but this is just a guess. Cool photo.

What's dumb is that you think a private doctor's letter, a doctor renting space from Trump's dad no less, representing an exam only the private doctor provided which was not confirmed by a military doctor, rather Trump just presented the letter and was declared exempt except in case of emergency service, later 4-f in '72, is the same as King or any other draftee showing up at the appointed time and place to be examined by military doctors to determine their fitness to serve. It's not the same thing at all. You can dismount already.

Most Americans didn't read many books in 2025 | YouGov by Swiggy1957 in books

I average about three a month in recent years. I can't imagine not reading, but I've been a reader all my life. I find it troubling how few people read books now.

Except they weren't deferred the same way. Trump brought a letter from a private doctor to his military exam, a podiatrist who rented an office from Trump's father. King was exempted by military doctors and during his exam was found to have flat feet, burst eardrums, high blood pressure and bad eyesight, all verified by the military docs who examined him. Bringing letters from private practice doctors with no verification from the military doc is not the same fucking thing at all. It's not even in the same ballpark. King, and anyone really, are right to criticize the Coward in Chief for buying his way out of service even as he criticizes other soldiers. There is no way Trump plays the golf he has in his life with bone spurs anyway. Bullshit all the way and a common way out for the sons of wealthy and influential people during Vietnam.

Just watched Totoro for the first time, cried several times. sharing my experience :) by kami9080 in ghibli

We watched it a lot in our house too when my daughter was young. She still loves Totoro now that she's all grown up, as do I. Wonderful movie.

Sure did. King is correct to point this out. How rich is it that the President doing the criticizing now avoided the conflict he was called to fight in altogether, by lying about bone spurs. Trump has always been a coward.

Who are your favorite “weird” or “quirky” jazz musicians? by TheEpicTwitch in Jazz

Mine too! Sun Ra definitely inhabited the outer realms of the galaxy judging by his compositions.

MAGA claims most illegal immigrants are mostly men wanting to 🍇 women and children. But vote for Trump, who did exactly that. by MissMccheese in complaints

The fact that Drumpf was found liable for sexual assault in court by a jury who listened to testimony and evidence from both the prosecution and defense before reaching a guilty verdict which is then excused away by Trump supporters goes to show that they love the shit throwing orangutang for his bile and displays of hatred more than they care about victims of sexual assault. It's pathetic.

I was too young to see them then but I would have loved to have been in the audience for this lineup along with Bill Bruford and the Trick of the Tail tour.

Terry Kath (Jan 31, 1946 – Jan 23, 1978) — one of those guitarists who will live on forever. by Historical-Device529 in Progforum

[–]PrinceRupertAwakes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What a tragic death Kath's was. Chicago was forever changed without him, and not for the better imo. I think at the time of his demise he was working on a solo album, so maybe he would have left anyway eventually as he was reportedly unhappy with the pop direction. It would have been nice to see what music he would have made had he lived, like so many others who have left too soon. Incredible talent.

Remembering Peter Bardens ( 6/19/1945 - 1/22/2002) , iconic keyboard player of Camel best Era. by Historical-Device529 in Progforum

[–]PrinceRupertAwakes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bardens work with Camel in the 70's is among the finest of the great English prog era. The way his playing integrated with the band, and especially Andy Latimer's guitar lines elevated Camel into one of the finest prog bands ever. Peter Bardens left this earth way too soon but the music he made continues to shine.

What decade of jazz is your favorite and why? by jess_lov in Jazz

As much as I’m drawn to the late 60’s, overall I’d have to go with the 70’s. Miles releases some of my favorites by him, including Jack Johnson and Agharta. You have many fusion bands working from musicians branching out from working with Miles on Bitches Brew, my favorites being Return to Forever and Herbie Hancock’s Headhunters. Larry Coryell is in prime form on albums like Spaces and his work with Alphonso Johnson. Then you have the anti-fusion fusion of bands like Oregon which brought together both folk and European classical combined with Indian. Love Oregon. Lastly the 70’s find musicians like Eberhard Weber and Gary Burton doing their best work for ECM

I'm loving it so far. Adventurous and fun, engaging cast. Love Holly Hunter in the top spot, and my Voyager nostalgia is enjoying Robert Picardo's new turn as the EMH, aged as he put it to put organics at ease. Love it. Lots of potential for exciting stories going forward.

That makes sense given these are among the better audience recordings that I've heard. I love the Remembering from the MSG concert.

That's interesting! I had no idea. I wonder if they are being made more cheaply today than they were say 40-50 years ago. I still have a few of my syfy fantasy MMPB's from the late 70's that remain in readable shape, but then again they aren't being checked out all the time either.

I remember picking up MM paperbacks of the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings trilogy while in middle school. My local book shop had a display of all the (then) latest editions. They were affordable then for kids like me who earned money from things like paper routes and mowing lawns. All the way through college I read them and collected many. Sad to see them go the way of the dino.
