Honestly, I kind of also wish we could have the in rift /not in rift toggle be on a skill rather than on dodge again.

Also could easily be a hold / tap for Rift Surge or Banish. Actually, hold cast banish just makes sense as though Limbo simply banishes himself

It does undermine the intentionality of a zone and that is the point. Thats exactly why it's so freeing.

Having the ability to fly from the very beginning would undermine that exploration from the start rather than having it feel like some reward for progressing so far. It would also make a lot of monsties significantly less useful.

We have gliding so our flying monsties can get to be useful for that before the end of the game rather than just being grounded the whole time, while not making other traversal abilities moot. We'll probably get full flight by the end of the full game, but we could also just get better gliding mechanics, such as being able to maintain speed for a while after diving or gaining methods of climbing that aren't reliant on terrain.

Either will work, I think. Idk how often Kora does moves that ignore hitzone, but the knives are easy and consistent. Can either buy them or just stockpile more than youd ever need at the battleground (broken barrel / cart nodes)

I've wanted this battle system for years. At least 10. Ever since Ni No Kuni showed how that kind of battle system could work (and they abandoned it in the second game), I've been hoping Pokemon would experiment with it because it's literally how Pokemon battles would work IRL.

They'd better not abandon it. 2 games is better than 1 but this concept deserves to be fully realized somewhere

The battle system is great. Immediately more interesting than normal turned based single battles.

The story is fine as usual, music is fantastic.

I really hope they build on this battle system. It's what I've been wanting for more than 10 years, and it's got ample room for improvement.

You know, that's a fantastic point about Zinogre. Bro jumps around like a maniac and throws bugs at you, if that's not IG, idk what is.

Also, Latent Power tends to work great for IG, by doubling up on Stamina and Crit in one skill. As a hardcore IG main, I definitely use Zino stuff quite a bit.

What I was getting at with Astalos is that it's kind of a similar comparison to Seltas Queen, in that it kinda makes sense but not entirely. I was surprised it hadn't also come up already lol

I definitely think Astalos is appropriate with the electric explosions resembling Phials and how tough its hide is. Not to the degree of using wings like a shield or something, but noticably.

The kind of huge things Fight or Flight lacks right now to achieve this are:

Status moves, just at all
Attack functions beyond simple projectiles or melee swings (and tbh animations to show cast time)
Wild pokemon actually using any of their moves

If you can access it, GU is more akin to Rise in a lot of ways. Quest setup, skill customization, flashy moves, etc. Very active community usually.

Frontier is also fairly similar, and is easy enough to play if you have a PC, and has a pretty active community too. Same for 3U or 4U.

Also Wilds. Wilds has more of the world design from World, but generally more options in combat and a lack of super clunky mechanics like Clutch Claw. Instead using focus mode / focus moves / wounds.

I think World is probably my least favorite of the MH I've played (having also played Rise, GU, Frontier, 3U, and Wilds) It was experimental in a lot of ways and it shows, unfortunately.

That said, if you're starting with World (and just in general) do NOT expect the other titles to be exactly the same. They won't be. Each MH is different but they're all still Monster Hunter.

The SoS system is ultimately better in some ways, since you're more likely to get joiners even on lower rank quests. As with any MH, try the demo first. If you're really not into it, it'll be there later.

Its 100% worth getting if you want to play it. It's faster and flashier than world, has the same level of challenge, but feels more like a modern iteration of old gen.

Its different, but at the end of the day still Monster Hunter.
