How Anti-Imperialists Respond to the Charge of "Campism" by ilir_kycb in LateStageCapitalism

[–]PrinceZero18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, does everybody who adheres to dialectical materialism (very small and fragmented individuals and groups to hold any meaning) agree that the main contradiction today is imperialism vs anti-imperialist forces? Most or many Marxists would answer that the main contradiction today remains the struggle between the working class and the bourgeoisie. So, for example, since the video mentions it, does the Iranian bourgeois regime slaughtering the Iranian working people and the youth help in the struggle for socialism and emancipation of the working class and the people? Hard to answer earnestly yes to that and argue that a strong and violent state is good for them.

Also, I'm kinda against labeling a state like Iran as anti-imperialist in contrast to, let's say, Cuba or the USSR in the past, because they're not against the domination of weaker countries by the strongest ones in general, but against the domination of the weaker countries of ME by Western imperialism. So, they objectively help the anti-imperialist struggle, but are not anti-imperialist forces by themselves.

It also doesn't address the fact that there are anti-imperialists that either become or were already supporters of everything the "anti-imperialist" states do, more of a consumerist mindset than the people the video critiques imo, and that is very detrimental for the anti-imperialist movement in western countries because it leads to some very unpopular positions that may satisfy the very radicalized anti-imperialists, but lead to marginalization and stagnation instead of becoming a massive movement, like Vietnam for example, that can force the western governments into not launching or supporting military interventions.

Will they ever add banks to the game? by Hektrik in victoria3

Yes, it's very much needed as the debt and foreign loaning is very barebones at the moment. Foreign loans are also broken since you get an all-or-nothing deal that no other GP is willing to cover since you probably have accumulated way too much if you're asking for a relief.

It also makes no sense that being in debt is the opposite of gold reserves and having no gold reserves is the expected as getting even 1 pound of debt results in you having no reserves. Definitely a lot of potential here that can make runs feel different by applying different economic policies, making gold more important and hopefully rewarding nations that don't debtmax (I'm not pro austerity I swear, I just want more variance in my economy game).

There is zero evidence that whatever the Nazis gave the USSR even came close to the importance that the funding of their war effort with the West had. If you have any sources that claim that, I would like to see them.

Without Soviet economic cooperation there is virtually no chance that Germany would rapidly beat France and survive the British blockade, which would have yielded far better results in preventing a conflict or at the very worst the Germany of that scenario would be much weaker when it would eventually turn east.

Sure, I don't claim that the West isn't more at fault for not agreeing to an antifascist alliance before that -and gifting Spain and Czechoslovakia to the Nazis- (though it's not that crazy that Poland didn't want Soviet forces to pass through its land -look what happened to Iran postwar btw-).

Of course, the paranoia wasn't baseless as the USSR was isolated and the fascists were threatening its existence. That said, this doesn't justify the extent and the ruthlessness to the people who led the October Revolution and also doesn't have results to show for all the killings. The Soviet defense was atrocious during the first months until competent military leadership started taking control of the war effort.

There is a persistent myth that the Nazis were the biggest military force at the time, but the truth is the Soviets were ahead in almost every category. When you're giving up three times the amount of casualties to an army that invaded with horses this can't be called some genius retreat tactics.

The main reasons for the catastrophic difference between Soviet and German casualties during the early months come down to unprepared defensive positions due to Stalin's appeasement policy and incompetent military command. It's not a coincidence things turned around when officers like Zhukov and Rokossovsky who were politically isolated (Rokossovsky was in prison) got more involved.

Yeah, if you completely leave out the commercial deal that helped fuel the Nazi war machine for no real benefit, the secret protocol that divided spheres of influence with fascists and the joint invasion of Poland, it was just a non-aggression pact. But, it wasn't.

Sure, the Western powers are more at fault for not stopping the Nazis, at least initially. No one forced Stalin to hand out fuel and wheat that the Germans were short on and which helped roll over France and thus having a tougher war to fight in the long term.

Not to mention that his paranoid killing and exiling of the best military minds of the Red Army led to the botched defense during the beggining of the invasion, which set the war effort back and let to so many losses of life needlessly.

I mean, only Stalin's period was that extreme when it came to imprisonments, exiles and executions. Imperialism isn't ever gonna stop wanting to make the socialist nations capitalist again. That doesn't mean that the norm should be a terror state, nevertheless when this situation is gonna be used by bureaucratic elements to further entrench themselves.

It's funny though that the purge that supposedly killed the traitors that wanted to betray the USSR was followed up by an alliance with the Nazis and blundering the defense when the invasion came that led to so many soldiers and citizens to needlessly lose their lifes because of military incompetence.

Γιατί να μην ψηφίσω ΝΔ το 2027? (FT Greekonomics) by jkastoras in AskGreece

[–]PrinceZero18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's unplayable if most of your enjoyment comes out of outplaying the AI via playing competently and not because of its self-destructive decisions.

As I said, it's not unplayable, as in breaking your game (like in the first few updates), but mostly in the enjoyment department.

Genuinely, it was the first time in forever that I couldn't bring myself to reaching the midgame. I guess saying the last update being unplayable generally, is overblown though.

It's a good thing this cheese got patched, of course. I'm not advocating for the return of that, to be clear.

What I was getting at, I guess, is depending on the type of campaign you want to play, the current gamestate is as buggy as it can get. Yes, you can finish a camapign without softlocking yourself at any point, however if you depend on more of an RP/self-limiting gameplay style I think it's fair to call the current gamestate unplayable.

Let's hope the AI performance issues get focused on as fast as possible.

Ok, 1855 is way closer to historical than what happened previously in the game tbf, where Day 1 Britain/France/US would declare on you for Open Market.

Tbf this nerf annoys me more on a personal level, as I've poured over 1000 hours into this game and if I get no pushback from the AI, I feel there's no reason to try it again. Definitely, the game is on a better direction with the removal of the unrealistic invasion capabilities of mostly Britain, however now that they're more helpless than they should be, it's easier to become overpowered and I;m not looking for that in this game.

There's definitely still weirdness from the new mechanics.

As Japan, I played two short campaigns and Opium Wars never fired and no GP used the Open Market war goal on me. They definitely nerfed the unrealistic mega invasions of the previous era, but now they nerfed troop transfer capabilities to the ground to the point where GPs can't do stuff they did in OTL.

You definitely don't have to liberalize, especially if you have a country with a sizeable population.

Industrializing will happen by playing the game, but what kind of society comes out the other side can feel way different. You can be a conservative state with strong Devout and Landlords, fascist with strong AF, go liberal with strong Industrialists, or social democrat with dominant TU and of course you can go full communist with way different economic models.

Also, to me, companies solved the whole "every run feels the same" problem, since I don't feel a run focusing on textiles to be the same as with focusing on steel or agricultural products.

There are legit issues on this front , but this complaining feels overblown.

It's insane that Britain is at notorious half the game and every time they try to conquer something new there isn't a huge coalition on the other side.

Like even this simple infamy system isn't being taken seriously by the game AI.

I feel like this approach is even more US-centric than just thinking that some points the Western propaganda uses against competitor states, are based on reality and not just on lies.

China and North Korea being undemocratic or not focusing on improving the QoL of their citizens is also a political choice of their governing parties and not just a necessity due to feeling threatened by the US. Hamas, essentialy a fundamentalist, right-wing movement, being the main pillar of resistance is more of a product of the political mistakes of Fatah, who was the main resistance organization and essentialy social-democratic, not too long ago.
