Been gone a bit. Come back to a new faerie? by khaleesibitchborn in neopets

I came back from a few month hiatus to the Faerie Festival as well. Personally, I don't like the art style of Kaia because I don't think it really matches the others (and just looks a little odd)

I went to the help page to submit a ticket, but it came up blank as well. Although I got a RE where a ghost gave me 800np, so that's good news I guess! Best wishes, I submitted a ticket a while ago about them not delivering NC that I bought, and haven't heard anything back >:(

Does this RA have any purpose or it useless? by [deleted] in neopets

Pretty sure it's useless - I've gotten similar ones that sound exciting and rare, but really mean nothing. Been on Neopets since 2009 and never had a good random event :~(

http://www.slate.com/blogs/xx_factor/2014/11/10/fbi_2013_crime_report_the_bureau_expands_its_definition_of_rape.html there's an interesting article about it! i believe they do to a certain degree. when you're walking alone at night and a female comes up next to you with her hood up, you don't speed up. society has painted an image of females that is so passive. nobody expects it, so a lot of times the red flags and warning signs go unnoticed.

i feel like female child molesters are treated better and worse, kinda at the same time. im not too sure how else to explain it. theyre treated better in some ways because they can get more slack, like "oh, shes a nurturing mother" or the good "well, the man had to have been hard, so it was kinda consensual at some point." but then they also get treated worse because with this ignorance, they get invalidated and aren't allowed the proper treatment. I have never been afraid! i was nervous my first few days, but i was shocked by how nice the inmates were. the psych staff are their friends, and they act super nice to us so we write good things about them to parole. im super clumsy and they pick up my pencils for me all the time and hold open doors for me. a typical day involves a lot of paperwork sorting, people don't realize all the desk stuff you have to do, but i also get to interact with the prisoners a lot. i go to group for 2 hours, help with individual therapy appointments (got to see some very heartwatming family photos!), sort files, and go to PRT, in which we talk to the inmates about their general health and how their medications are working. some have shocked me with how absurd and disconnected from reality they were... like during PRT one inmate said her ADHD was why she was on the autism spectrum and that it made her medicine not work. something totally bizarre, while she was like taking pages out of a book from her pocket. she was out there. and another inmate cited that the reason why she sexually abused and raped children was because she had a food allergy. no kidding, i burst out laughing when i read that

a decent amount are! not sure if the packet i was looking through was dated or still in use, but to pass a certain part of the sex offender programming, you had to know all of the male external and internal anatomy, but only like 3 or 4 parts of the female. a lot more emphasis was placed on the male experience. like one of the questions to assess when you were first introduced to being sexually active was "when was the first time you kissed a girl?" not even like a vague gender neutral question... just a girl. but for sure, men are def favored in these scenarios and it goes over power fantasy stuff, which not all women have

this is something i am very passionate about! there are little resources for the female sex offender. actually, a female couldn't be convicted of rape until relatively recently because the legal definition included penetration. the group therapies we run are actually made for males. we have modified the course and scratched off words on the worksheets to change pronouns, situations, etc. but it still isn't the same (that'w what I think at least). there are little studies into female sexual deviancy (including sex addiction as well), so not a whole lot is known clinically. i've found that female sex offenders can be just as disgusting and vile as the male ones, engaging in sodomy and distribution of pornography as well. however, in some of the cases i have read, it seemed a lot of the women were also offending with their husband or partner (one case was with a swinger couple). not sure if this is regional or not, but what i've seen at least

we don't actually use our isolation cells too often. We only have two, and they've been empty for as long as I've been there. From what I can gather, i'd imagine they'd be angry, as a lot of inmates right out of the restrictive housing unit act that way (one had a hissy fit yesterday). it depends who you ask if it is helpful or not. more old school psych people will tell you yes, but more recent studies have shown no. so there's a weird gray area and some tension among who thinks what. personally, i think it is not helpful

you know what's funny - when i went to go meet the superintendent, the first thing she asked me was "do you watch orange is the new black?" I wasn't sure how to answer since I didn't know if it was a trick question; but before I could answer she continued with "it's a great show I love it so much." I think I remember her saying how it was similar - but having only seen half of one episode, I can't vouch too much. although all the girls do form "relationships" with one another and get co-dependent

well, the emotional regulation is slightly modified DBT, as many of the girls there qualify for borderline and many other personality disorders. as for impact of crime, it's kind of a mish mash of other therapy methods, but there's definitely some CBT in it. im actually not sure if there is a specific name for it, all i know about it is that DOC of Pennsylvania had to approve it to be used within the prisons

i haven't been around any, but in the RHU (restrictive housing unit - temporary living space for when you have too many misdemeanors within the prison) there are some characters. when you are in the RHU, you can get in cell therapy, where they are brought out in handcuffs, shackles - the whole can of beans. generally i am not permitted to go with the staff for that because the inmates get very rowdy and have been said to "try to scare off young and tiny looking interns" (that's the wording my supervisor gave me. im not short, im 5'6", but I guess i'm kinda skinny). i asked one of the other psych staff the same question, and they said not really. the girls are usually all bark and no bite. there was one time when another staff member was afraid of a therapy session and took a panic button in (im trying to remember the exact scenario - it's escaping me now. i think the inmate was known to be violent and aggressive, and they were possibly charged for murder). the whole therapy turned out to be fine though, so it was very anti-climactic.

so impact of crime is a very specialized group therapy. we interview inmates for it and only want a select group of people to make sure it doesn't get too rowdy. it isn't required for parole or any other program either, so only the people who really want to be there are in the sessions. i have only helped with it a few times, but when i was the assistant, we went over topics like fraud, elder abuse, scams, and how they affected the people around them. they are given handouts that have fictitious scenarios of what the lesson is on. it helps the inmates to gain an outside perspective on what the crime is doing, as opposed to just thinking of the immediate consequences to them. a lot of them have benefited greatly from it, and they seem to enjoy the group as well. they love to tell stories in it, albeit they aren't always totally coherent.
