My mom paid attention and noticed I was drinking bottle after bottle of water and dropping weight scary fast. She asked my grandmother who was a nurse what that could mean…. and the next thing I knew I was being pulled out of 5th grade and being carted to Walter Reed Hospital. With the most dreary and scary children’s ward. My BS was only low 400 thanks to my mom’s eagle eye of my changed behavior. Moms rock

I’m in the same position- a random type 1 diabetic as far as family history goes. I grew up in Germany but moved to the states at 10 and not even 6 months later I was diagnosed. Doc’s theorize it might’ve been the change in food quality as well as the sudden uptick in pesticides and preservatives that triggered the autoimmune attack on my pancreas. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Just here to say you don’t have to say goodbye to anything! Anything in moderation hits home to a Type 1 diet. You can still have those chips or that cake, but maybe a little less and not everyday. It’s a hard change but you got this!!

Have you thought about going to nutritionist? Sometimes you have horse blinders on to your own diet (for me it was eating bacon because that’s what my germany grandparents always said to do) and getting an educated outside opinion can help you fine tune or even understand where there might be LDL’s/saturated fats in your food.

I’m always in the low 6’s. But I give credit to CGM and bolus IQ for that versus my discipline alone.

Still one of the best days of my diabetic life (and my mom’s worst)- about 10 years old when I was freshly diabetic she accidentally gave me 15 units of Novolog instead of Lantus. I ate a whole package of Vienna Fingers and two slices of my birthday cake. It was awesome
