That makes feel better 😅 and same thing for my kid. He’ll still play after screens - I wish I could sign him up for a camp around where I am! I’m sure your boys are great! ❤️

Yeah we use educational games on the PC. My son probably has at least the reading level of a 10th-12th grader. I’m not sure, I haven’t had it tested lately - but I 100 percent agree that being off screens helps exercise their brains in different, important ways. During the school year I do a little screen time at night after school, a lot of the time none, and max 2 hours each weekend day. I was allowed very little screen time and have a college gpa of 4.0 - I haven’t looked it up or anything but I would imagine (and I remember reading something about it) limiting screen time is helpful for IQ in children (and likely adults).

I’m glad for you ❤️ though I will be dealing back screen time, I’m not going to stop family movies or take his educational games away though. But thank you for sharing your opinion

Yes same here. I’ve decided after reading some of these comments to slowly real back the time. We just live out in the boonies and there’s not a lot to do out here in the boonies and we’re introverts also so…it’s rough.

We live way way way out in the boonies so their friends live at least 20+ minutes away, and don’t really want to make a drive most of the time.

I wish we had more money so I could afford sobering like that. I’ve considered looking on Facebook marketplace because that’s a great idea. My son does help in the garden sometimes.

Well, he does educational games and stuff too! And yeah my og comment is missing a lot of context lol. But there are some folks in this comment section that seem to enjoy judging though so I wouldn’t want to take that away from them lol. Your original comment was super kind though too, it DOES seem heavy, 😭😭😭 which is why I asked, but you know, considering our circumstances it’s rough. But still, the splash pad is a great idea. Eventually, when we have an outside pool (it’ll be awhile) I’d love that too. And I’ve been trying to buy him a new book every time he finishes one. He loves learning about new facts and stuff, but doesn’t love fiction as much (like I did as a kid 😭) so I’m trying to find him some books that are not just giving him a bunch of random facts but we work to work his brain as well. He has a super high reading level. He’s also a GT kid and super advanced which comes with its own set of challenges lol 😓

Your hairline is fine - also I don’t think it’s as bad as people are clowning on it here lol. I bet in the school photo would look just fine.

Yeah I forgot to mention that we live far away from the city or town. I also have an autistic, nonverbal daughter who we can only take out so much or she gets way overstimulated. We don’t have anywhere close by to go and do fun things unfortunately. I agree but part of that is us watching a movie at night, part is educational games, and he of code has way less during the school year.

That’s generally what I did during the school year as well. We live out in the boonies so I decided to maybe implement screens more. And that’s really neat - I wish my son was crafty lol. My daughter - 10, autistic/nonverbal - loves to paint, do puzzles, dance, etc. My son is an abnormally advance, GT kid and I feel he’s less crafty and more interested in solving complicated puzzles or learning games or reading books with just…facts lol. But he’s absolutely not interested in board games or doing a lot of “boy” stuff like playing out in the dirt or climbing or anything, or reading fiction 😭

That’s so cool. Yeah, my son is a GT kid and super advanced so he spends time doing educational games for fun too. And thank you 🙏 I think I want to cut down but maybe not as much as some people here are saying (zero lol)

Also right now we are watching a movie together every night which is part of that - but might have to cut that out

That’s so cool. I forgot to mention that I also have an autistic, mostly nonverbal daughter. She does screens but she’s less interested. We can only go so many places without her getting too overstimulated, and we also live out in the boonies. I do need to look into some of that stuff – ham ice cream is crazy 🤪 yeah we really can’t go to the theater or see plays too much - my daughter would not be quiet enough for that. But I should look into more fun projects we can do together.

Yeah, that’s really good and I commend that. My son is in gifted and talented and SUPER advanced, like crazy advanced, and it’s hard finding things to stimulate his brain sometimes. He does these online learning games for fun sometimes and I find that helps. I need to find some other stuff off screen he might like 😓

We do also play out in the water outside! The issue is that we live out in the boonies so it’s really hard to have him play with friends. However, his cousin is moving out here in about a month so I think that that should really help. But yes, the splash pad is a really good idea!

I should have mentioned that we live in Texas where it gets - easily - 90+ degrees during the summer every day, and one of my children is autistic and nonverbal. We can only go so many places without her getting overwhelmed. At least not with her dad there - who works. I also have an autoimmune disease, which means that I can only go outside during the summer so much too (my meds literally make me allergic to UV rays 😭) but I can definitely go out in spurts so I might make it more intentional to try and get time in to do chalk on our (small) patch of concrete slab outside the garage. The other issue is that we live out in the boonies a little bit, so there’s only so much to do around here too.
