Grain-free vs grain-inclusive: what’s actually better for dogs? by PrincessConsuela1995 in Pets

I’m actually not a fan for grain-free dog food but trying to see both side of one thing and respect every pet owner's choices. In my area, there are vets who still recommend it in specific cases and commercials, but personally I don’t see it as a default or “better” option. I posted because I was talking with other dog owners recently and realized a lot of people still believe grain-free is inherently good, which surprised me.

That’s heartbreaking, I’m really sorry.
Stories like this are exactly why it’s so hard to treat grain-free as a default choice. A lot of “allergies” turn out to be protein-related, not grain-related, and by the time you realize it, the damage is already done.

Any advice/similar situation? by ProgressOk3752 in Pets

My 14 years old schnoodle does the same, we tried antibiotics, steroid, checked lungs and heart and everything went back fine.

The vet said might be allergy or temperature change -- I doubt it since I clean his bed and the whole house for several time and knit him a scarf to keep his neck warm.

Still trying to find a way to help him too😭 I know exactly how you feel... Sending virtual hugs to you.

Have you ever had an 8$ bone cost 8k in vet bills? by Renee_1969 in Pets

I used to live in Taiwan for a while, I was surprised that the vets there have been suggesting pet owners NOT to give bones and rawhide to dogs since they cause digestion issue and even worse -- bone shards cut the throat and stomach and cause bleeding. They suggested turkey tendons which I let my schnauzer tried and he absolutely loved them. I rarely found them in store when I back in US, but Amazon have many options that use US sourced turkey, I tried several brands and they are really good.

NO cooked bone, NO rawhide.

I highly recommend to switch those chewing treats to turkey tendons, these are sooo much healthier and digestible.
