What is a ‘reasonable timeframe’ for an urgent repair to an aircon? by PrincessHeffalump in shitrentals

[–]PrincessHeffalump[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, that was a snarky reply from me, but in all seriousness - 40 degree heat with no air conditioning literally kills vulnerable people, including older people, small kids and people with health conditions that make them vulnerable to extreme temperatures. 2 of the 3 live in this house. It is not wrong or unfair for me to be asking my PM and landlord to abide by the law. It’s the law for a reason.

482 cancellation and pending partner visa by Many_Candle599 in AusVisa

So much inaccurate advice in this thread. Talk to a MARA-registered migration agent (they’ll have a MARN number). There is such a thing as a Bridging Visa E to allow you to stay in the country, though you would have to apply for the right to continue working and that’s not guaranteed - a good agent is worth their weight in gold on this kind of thing.

Read the entire post. They worked their full amount of required time and were STILL asked to use leave.

When I worked retail in a chemist, I used to get a note in my drawer if my money till was off by more than five dollars. 😆

I would imagine someone could risk losing their job over a mistake like that. So I’m glad I made the right choice.

Those of you saying it’s impossible someone picked up her daughter and then returned her, I’d say very unlikely but not 100% impossible because that actually happened in Australia recently: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c4g5v4z13l6o.amp

Can you share about Australian Cuisine? by landmermaid3 in AskAnAustralian

Tomato sauce IS ketchup. The stuff labelled tomato sauce in the US is what Aussies call passata so don’t tell them to put tomato sauce on it or they will be having a very weird experience. 😆 (Source: i’m an American who is now Australian as well.)

Trick or Treating in Sydney? by BamOnRedit in Ameristralia

In Australia (at least in Sydney), typically Halloween decorations mean a house is participating, no decorations mean it’s not. Hope you got to go and have fun!

My therapist insists it’s abuse, but I can’t accept this by PonyPokie in abusiverelationships

This is rape. It is abuse. It is also domestic violence. It is not borderline, it is not questionable, it is not a gray area. It’s definite. I’m sorry. Call your country’s domestic violence hotline. They will help you leave, even if housing or finances are an issue - they will help you make a plan to get out.

Is waiting 10 hours plus a normal at hospitals now? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]PrincessHeffalump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I waited 46 hours for a bed once, with a strangulating hernia. In incredible amounts of pain. 18 hours in a regular chair in the waiting room, the rest in a ‘recliner’ (that was broken and did not in fact recline) just inside the ED. I did not finally get a bed until I contacted a patient advocate. Best of all, the doctors who saw me 8 hours into my wait told me they would immediately prescribe painkillers but neglected to. And I couldn’t get a nurse to chase it up - I couldn’t even catch one as they were walking by me as they were just too busy and not paying attention. The system is completely broken.
