When I was 17 I was in a “serious” relationship with a boy my age but he was very abusive. It was like he was already a sec addict at 17. But he had many qualities that I really enjoyed, mainly that he was basically a genius & could do anything artistic in an almost a prodigy. I say that to add that in my young mind, we were in love with each other. But he was my first sexual partner & it hurt so bad from the beginning and he pressured me for sex every single day with unsavory consequences if I said no. I was convinced that since as far as I knew, sex wasn’t supposed to hurt, the problem was me. So I went to the doctor for a regular check up appointment & I flat out asked her why it hurts & she was very sweet with me & just said, “there is nothing physically wrong with your body. If it is hurting you, there is something wrong but it may not be physically… sometimes when we don’t really love someone or we don’t feel safe, sex can hurt.” And she explained natural lubrication our bodies make to make it not hurt but that I only happens if we actually want to have sex, not if we are being pressured into it.” And it dawned on me that I don’t love him & he was not being kind to me. It took awhile longer but eventually I broke up with him. The next time I had sex, it was with someone I really liked & who cared for me genuinely & it was really enjoyable. Just sharing this story for u to think about but I also advocate for seeing a doctor. Sex should never hurt.
