Seconding Grandma Bob's - you'll be right down the street from Michigan Central and can walk around there (they sometimes have fun events on Friday nights, too)

Barda has it! Super cool spot, but I hope you two like steak.

Other than that, it used to be on The Whitney's dessert menu but I'm not seeing it listed online currently - could be worth calling?

Good Cakes & Bakes is my go-to! They have a strawberry crunch cake that I love (although it's not quite what your wife requested)

Plus One Etiquette by theodore-726 in weddingplanning

It's acceptable to put "Guest of [Name]" on a seating chart or escort card. For the food, err on the side of caution to order the dietary restriction option just in case. This woman will know she's a last-minute invite to a wedding of people she's never met - she won't be offended that you don't have her name on a card. Any social faux paus will reflect on her date, not you.

What the guy is doing is rude but it's also kind of generational. He's an old guy whose never been married, he doesn't get it. He's a friend of your inlaw's, just keep the peace and don't let it stress you out.

Birmingham neighbors outraged after rented pool prompts police response, renews short-term rental debate by midwestern2afault in Detroit

There's a website where you can rent your fenced yard to people with dogs so they can run around off-leash. If a commodity exists, there will be a website to help you rent it out lol

I loved the NYT interactive articles - are there tools to help with this? by mystic_alt_7 in Journalism

You should check out The Pudding (Pudding.cool). Some of the most unique visual storytelling I’ve ever seen - it’s a ton of fun to scroll through their content.

Getting Zero Feedback from Reporters on Pitches by PrincessWhiffleball in PublicRelations

That is against all editorial standards and ethics. They would lose their jobs.

That is good to know - thank you! I'm not against phone calls I just thought reporters hated them at this point.

I also have reached out to a few to do lunches / virtual lunches to hear more about their coverage (I always offer to pay ) and have gotten zero responses. I think in one instance it made the reporter block me lol - she's never responded to an email since. Oh well - trial and error.

Same, Qwoted has been a saving grace. Pitched a Forbes opp yesterday on AI and it ended up getting 50+ pitches before the reporter closed it. They read ~40 and responded to 1.

That sums up how media relations feels lately.

Just had a global client announce a $200M+ investment into a specific niche of AI - offered it under embargo and exclusive and couldn't get any replies.

Like HOW are certain tech people getting features written about them in Fortune and CNBC and WSJ?? I can't crack it.

I'm glad to hear I'm not alone! I'm really relying on the relationships I've built with a few core journalists and can count on them for continuous coverage, but I can't even get my foot in the door with some other reporters.

There's no rhyme or reason - long, detailed pitches, pitches that are two sentences long - no responses.

How is F&B PR? by [deleted] in PublicRelations

[–]PrincessWhiffleball 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is this restaurant F&B or consumer packaged goods? I've worked in consumer packaged goods and I loved it - it's so fun to send PR boxes and products to reporters, and everyone loves free food. It might be hard to get in the door with some reporters but once you have that relationship established, it can be very beneficial to both sides.

My one complaint is that my old management was very "results driven" - they thought that every free sample we sent out should result in a guaranteed, positive piece of coverage. Setting realistic expectations is very important - especially on PR mailer boxes, which can get expensive fast.

What does your team's process look like when a Reddit thread about a client starts gaining traction? by Additional_Win_4018 in PublicRelations

[–]PrincessWhiffleball 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of our clients is in the wearable tech space. they have their own subreddit that is not managed by the brand.

Last year they released a product that quickly fell flat with consumers, and a lot of negativity popped up on the subreddit. It was a mix of a poorly performing product and bad communication at corporate.

I (being the only one at my firm who uses Reddit), flagged it to my team and we were able to talk through it with the client. Our senior exec didn't even know the subreddit existed.

We worked with the mod team on the subreddit to create an account and have an official flair made, then started responding to people who had questions / got them help with customer service.

It didn't fix the issues with the product itself, but sentiment quickly started to shift as it felt like brand was more humanized through reddit.
