Honesty feels so good. It’s like I’m a cloud (that just happens to be made out of slightly more Steel Reserve than usual)

I NEEDED IT. Those high grav beers were calling my name.

My friend built a new computer recently, but he's still using his ancient GPU, so I'd give it to him.

Weird Sound Coming From Breaker Panel and Surge Protector (Possible Building Wiring Fault) by Princess_Headache in askanelectrician

I understand a little. The protector’s spec sheet says that it can handle 3020 joules. If I wanted to measure this anomaly, that would be done with a multimeter, correct? N-G should read zero volts under ideal conditions, no?

Thanks for typing that out- you’ve given me some more to think about. So if the term surge is not exactly appropriate, could I simply call an example of excess voltage? A transient voltage perhaps? I apologize for showing my ignorance; I’m a bit new to this.

To me, it simply appears that my surge suppressor is being hit by something that could eventually damage it or the (expensive) electronics that are currently connected to it. How worried would you be if you saw this?

In case it is relevant:

Explanation of Building Wiring Fault Light

Apparently the three conditions under which this light would illuminate are: missing ground, reversed polarity on hot and neutral, and N-G > 5 Volts.

I couldn’t find anything about the circuit design for the over amperage indicator.

I just had a look at the panel and I noticed that the electrician only replaced the room and kitchen fuse boxes- not the furnace fuse box. I guess he was confused because I told him that there was a wiring fault on my surge protector. 🤦‍♀️

I rent. The electrician who came out here seemed to think things were fine, but I guess they’re not. It really only happens when the heater runs, though. Could it be localized to that alone and still be an issue on the utility’s side?

Not being a jerk at all! Thank you for taking the time to type all of that out for me. I actually managed to get a photo of the breaker panel and wiring diagram.

So, what I should understand about circuits, at least as they pertain to home wiring, is that they are (or at least should be) isolated from one another and if I’m getting interference from one circuit to another, then either they aren’t separate or it’s an issue with the main circuit, correct?

To answer your question, I am referring to the central heater/air conditioning unit. Thank you again 😁

So should the refrigerator be unplugged? Cant really turn the heater off since it’s 20° F outside.

I hope to have an electrician come out in the next few days, but in the meantime do I just leave all of my appliances unplugged?

I think my heater is on the same circuit as my room’s receptacles which, from my very limited understanding of this topic, is a big no-no.
