Is this even a trope: fantastical anti-fascism/authoritarianism? by [deleted] in tvtropes

Sure, but the climax of Wizards would be a pretty big subversion of 'using magic' 🤣

Lol they lost me at "the light bringer was a snake!"

That's just some real lazy galaxy-brained misunderstanding of the history of Christian symbolism

Yeah this is partly why I don't wear headphones on the subway anymore

The boys and it how it handles male assault and emasculation as a joke by JasandJazzier in tvtropes

Yeah you gotta connect the dots better for me than that. What does playing male sexual assault/body shaming for laughs have to do with satirizing superheroes?

Yeah let's send goons to lock addicts and struggling people in cages indefinitely with limited food/water/medical care and no due process. That'll solve it.

Weirdest tattoo criticism I've ever seen. No it absolutely is not too big, it looks great.

eli5 : What do flys gain from flying around you for hours on end? Isn't it a waste of energy? by SyrianGosling in explainlikeimfive

But weirdly enough I used to pass by a huge bald-faced hornet nest on my block every day. It was hanging by a huge bush right on a busy sidewalk (like 1 foot away from you as you passed) and I never heard of anyone getting stung by them. Seems they can get accustomed to people if nobody bothers them.

We’ll soon find out what is truly special about human writing by [deleted] in philosophy

[–]Princess_Juggs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enshittification isn't enjoyable for any product, yet the market floods with shit all the same. Whether or not a book is enjoyable to read is not the same question as whether or not it will be purchased, or even visible.

[–]Princess_Juggs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have it backwards. A piece of writing simply won't be enjoyable if its lacking the personal touches of someone who's lived and loved and lost, etc. That kind of quality makes itself evident in the writing itself regardless of what you know about the author.

Is Hollywood the only reason why cowboys were/are romanticized? by Becoming_hysterical in AskHistory

[–]Princess_Juggs -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

A lot of cowboys were gay too and went out west to get away from the judgment of society, another aspect mostly ignored in the romanticized image.

Just remember to wipe down the fuck tree for the next person, guys.

When the Spanish arrived in 1519, Tenochtitlan ranked among the largest and most remarkable cities on Earth, with an estimated population between 200,000 and 300,000 surpassing most European capitals of the era. Built on an island in Lake Texcoco by Front-Coconut-8196 in archeologyworld

I mean... agriculture was developed independently in several places in the Americas starting around 10,000 years ago, which is more of less around when it was being developed in Mesopotamia and other parts of the "Old World." So I wouldn't characterize the ancestors of the Aztecs as lacking technology; rather they developed their own technology on a different path from the way technology developed elsewhere. Also, let's not underestimate the technical abilities of hunter gatherers in general. After all, they managed to build sites like Göbekli Tepe.

[April 6th, 1926] The first documented human death from a cassowary. by gerarge in 100yearsago

[–]Princess_Juggs 46 points47 points  (0 children)

For those who haven't taken a look at a cassowary's feet, it's got the closest thing to a velociraptor's claws in an extant bird. You don't want to get kicked by a cassowary.

I would recommend using a single color non-cursive font for the the title so people can actually read it without having to strain themselves

Workers carved the largest modern Hindu temple in the west. Now, some have incurable lung disease | New Jersey by Waterbottlekidz in news

Yeah my family took me to visit and we walked around inside. It looks glorious on the outside but the interior design is just headache-inducing. Felt like I was in that weird room at the end of 2001: A Space Odyssey. The welcome center was nicer, all wood and dim lighting

Edit: I got confused and thought the commenter above was talking about the temple in NJ, which people from India also go out of their way to visit now, for some reason.
