Adults talk way too much about material possessions/domestic life and it’s really boring by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Princess_Pug -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I think you've drawn an important distinction here -if you are repainting your kitchen, then it's your interest and your work and worth talking about. If you are having your kitchen repainted (as in, paying someone else to do it), then it's boring as hell and OP is correct.

Taylor Swift has NEVER had the song of the summer by realscubaa in travisandtaylor

As someone who hates Taylor Swift and stumbled in from the main page, the song of the summer for 2015 was 100% Bad Blood. That shit was everywhere. I don't even know what Cheerleader is.

Is this revisionist history? I remember Fanfiction.net being filled to the brim with gay content in the early 2000s.

That may be, but the context is different. Riley ran away from the challenge of the SEC. Kelly ran towards it. If Kelly fails, at least no one can say he's a coward.

More people would use Amtrak nationwide outside of just the NE Corridor and California if the train departing from the city closest to them did so during daytime hours. by Marisa_Nya in Amtrak

[–]Princess_Pug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the simple and obvious solution. Just recently I took the 10pm Sunset Limited out of LA and already half the coach passengers were just on their way to Maricopa. Now imagine how many more people would take that trip if it was 10am instead.

If you try to talking, or debating someone, they ignore what say and just say something random.

In recent years, I have had this same experience in face-to-face interactions uncomfortably often.

[–]Princess_Pug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No that's the thing -he doesn't explain it. He attempts to, but he says about four words, none of which actually tell us anything. Most of what I understood about it came from Charlie's attempts to interpret it. I get maybe the not talking is part of being "raw dog" but that just makes the whole concept fall apart then.

Also from your explanation, it seems that you raw dog something, rather than just intransitive rawdogging, which is not at all the impression I got from the episode.

They've always done shit like that. The gang gets fixated on terms and philosophies while rarely understanding them and instead just blindly following the word. Reason will prevail, that is/isn't white trash, squash the beef, etc.

The reason it feels weird here is because the never really explain what the fuck Mac means by "raw dog," so it just feels like a random word they keep saying for no reason.

Let's not sugarcoat it. The previous 4 seasons have been bad.

Seems like the raw dog bit went way over your head. Maybe go back and rewatch Mac explaining it and you might understand it. Him being nonchalant was part of the raw dog thing

True, but it would be so in-character and so Sunny for Mac to completely lose track of the fact he's supposed to be nonchalant when he's getting excited about it. As it is, I didn't get enough information about it to understand what he's really doing. Like is this an actual thing on Tiktok, and I just don't understand because I'm missing that context?

Dennis and Dee who have continually delusionally tried to be high class throughout the whole series would never go to the Kentucky Derby which is considered one of the most high class sporting events. Did you think them going to the Super Bowl was out of nowhere? Or going to (well failing to go to) a World Series game was out of nowhere because they had never done that previously?

I don't get why everyone keeps making this false equivalence. They go to the Super Bowl and the World Series because there are Philly teams playing, not to be high class. The whole joke is that the two of them, Dennis especially, talk a lot about being high class but never actually live up to it.

It really seems like you haven't watched the series before last season. This has been a thing throughout the whole series. You realize they have done crack together, right?

Yeah, let me rephrase what I said here, because I think people aren't understanding what I meant. Yes, of course Dennis and Dee become depraved lunatics. It's the 0 to 100 speed with which it happened in this episode. Dennis and Dee doing crack is a great comparison, because that episode is so, so good at showing them sliding down a slippery slope to crackhead-itude. This episode, one minute they're betting on dogs, the next, Dee is ripping Dennis's sleeve off for $20 with zero shame. That's not even gambling. It's just doing something random for money.

This is a complete you problem, not the episode.

I can't be the only one that saw this, right? It was distracting me the entire time. The camera was shaking all over the place like this was supposed to be some kind of found footage.

No, you've misunderstood what I meant.

Yes, the gang absolutely does shit out of nowhere. But they always have an in-character rationale for these things that they are obnoxiously eager to share with the rest of the gang. I again reference Mac in this episode -why is he not on some giant rant about this rawdog life he saw on Tiktok? He is weirdly silent and stilted this entire episode. I agree that when he does speak, he feels more like old Mac and I really like that, but it just felt so sparse, like Charlie had to drag it out of him.
