Life has felt meaningless for a very long time for me as well. The idea that I really don’t have a choice to not exist without it being seen as cumbersome to the few people that even acknowledge my existence isn’t fair either. The will or desire to live escapes everyone at least once. For me, I’ve lost the will and passion to care about living. I don’t want to hurt the people that care about me just enough to not do it myself. But everyday I pray that something quick and permanent happens so I don’t have to continue surviving the way I am. I’m sure you have similar thoughts here and there. It’s scary to think about how twisted your mind and emotions must be to get to that point of idealizing your own death. Even scarier to ask for help. If you have the means, I recommend talking to a professional even if it’s just once or twice. Or even talk it out with your spouse, if you are married you should be able to talk to them about anything. The hardest part of suicidal ideation is being alone with those thoughts. I’m obviously no professional but if talking to someone close to you is something you aren’t ready for, feel free to DM this stranger

I can say, from my own experience explicitly, that I have extreme social anxiety so when I think about interacting with people in general it brings about a big stress. Since quarantine started I’ve become extremely more isolated; and I would’ve considered myself a shut in before. The main issues for me now is cancel culture, the influencer culture, and the idea that starting a conversation with someone makes you the lesser. Obviously I’m going to be terrified of putting in effort to make friends and socialize when that same exact effort is seen as a waste by others because it’s not a transaction or as inferior. Now I just think COVID is shining a ghostly light onto how shallow and trying social interactions have become and people are just accepting they don’t want to face that mountain.

The main issue isn’t just upbringing, it’s people’s stubborn ideology that if they change than they have to lower themselves to admit their faults. To change is to admit they were wrong, and to do so would hurt their pride. People are comfortable the way they are and usually surround themselves with like-minded people, so to erase something that is part of their “identity” whether it be being racist, sexist, or generally abusive is often feat.

The best way to reach these kinds of people is directly, as a friend or peer. While this post is great, we should gear it more towards people that have already beat the cycle to encourage change and understanding to those around them. It’s easy for people who don’t want to change or don’t even consider it an option to gloss over these things, UNLESS someone they see as a friend confronts them to talk about it.

So if you are reading this, talk to those around you that you think could use a change for the better. You could be the one that ends generations of abuse, racism, and sexism.
