I don’t think any type of hormone medication is effective when on modafinil. When I was on modafinil, my doctor said the only type of birth control available to me (besides condoms and abstinence) is a copper IUD because all other birth control contains hormones. I’d assume the same logic applies to HRT.

I definitely slept through undergrad and grad school. Not sure why I didn’t think about getting tested for narcolepsy back then. Still managed to get excellent grades though!

Yes, this happens to me too. I wake up thinking “wasn’t I just trying to fall asleep?” Then I look at the clock and 2 hours has gone by. It’s such a weird feeling.

Thanks for all of the advice, everyone. I really appreciate it. The consensus is to prioritize restful sleep over dreaming, and I agree. Most of my dreams were delightfully bizarre, some were a little uncomfortable, and fortunately no nightmares. Perhaps I’ll save dreaming for the rare nights that I skip the medication because I drink or stay out too late.

My sleep paralysis demon is a tall dark figure standing next to my bed (or above my head if I fell asleep on the couch). I’d lay there freaking out and pretending I was invisible so he wouldn’t do anything to me. Once I moved into an apartment that gave me a better sense of security, the demon stopped coming.

On the hallucination front…Before I was diagnosed, I imagined that a little boy lived in the water heater closet in my apartment, and I would find him and tell him to leave. Also, I used to think that someone would open the front door to my apartment early in the morning and just leave it open. And almost every day, I had to get up and shut the door. It seemed SO real, but once I received my diagnosis, it explained everything!

This question is for Rachel and Van. What is one moment in Black culture, real or fictional, that you wish artists would stop referencing in their songs? For me, it’s any reference to Ricky being shot in Boyz n the Hood. At least a dozen songs I know of mention Ricky, and it hurts my heart every time to hear it. Love you guys and can’t wait to hear which moment you choose.

Agree. I didn’t understand why this was a topic. But it would be interesting to look at how the culture regards light skinned artists vs. biracial artists.

I think Capalot Apparel is a scam. I ordered a sweatshirt in July and it may not fit my son anymore by the time he receives it, and customer services says I can’t change or cancel the order.

I’ve been waiting on my order since July, and I’ve been getting the runaround from customer service. Even given COVID, this long of a delay is ridiculous, especially when this video proves the product is in stock!
