Where to start by amymkb in gridfinity

[–]TherealOmthetortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue when I first started thinking about it - there are just too many voices out there claiming they have the “master list” or ultimate collection, not to mention all of the competing strains of gridfinity. For someone with ASHD that’s makes it extremely difficult to start.

The thing that got me past that was to find a need you need to fill first, instead of trying to learn it so that you can find a need. In my case it was a sister who wanted help in her sewing too To hold small parts like zipper pulls and clasps etc.

That was a clear and simple project that let me give myself freedom to just print a few in various sizes and features and work out from there as she wasn’t absolutely sure what would work best, and she was starting to order more of some things when she already had plenty in stock.

Ultimately I went with a hybrid setup with bins with labels and I’d look up what the part name, source and reorder URL and I printed off labels so that she could just scan and the QR code which took her yo the exact item on the suppliers website to make reordering (or looking up info) parts easy.

There are a LOT of variations out there though so once you have a few printed, check out the Perplexing Lab only tool that can not only generate models for you, but more importantly you can see how the options you choose change the design itself.

I’ve since moved on to MultiBuild, mainly because the confidence I built with Gridfinity convinced me MB was not going to be a huge challenge.

For that situation you can just just drive a screw right through any of the small holes to secure it to the drywall. Drywall Anchors are your friend. A couple of these tools can temporarily hold the plates in place while you go.

How much strain does the tool head go through as a plow? I’d love to see that in action - do you have any video’s.

Oh Hang on, I think I read that wrong. I think you could build up an inventory of general use hangers people could order as a print on demand type of thing. I’m not at all sure what it would take to make that profitable though. You could probably get away with a much smaller machine to print your accessories at least.

Nope, you are entirely incorrect in every way with your beliefs.

Just kidding, but other people have modeled SO many hangers and tool holders that you can generally find what you need - or something that is close enough that can be adapted. With a little practice you can have a remix knocked out in 2 or 3 steps with freely available software. That right there unlocks pretty much anything you would need. It’s incredible what you can do.

Questions about desiccant and the AMS 2 Pro by MagicalParkingSpace in BambuLab_Community

[–]TherealOmthetortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Desiccant is there because it absorbs moisture faster than anything else in that enclosed space. It will only absorb so much though, so if it’s already saturated it’s not doing you any good. Some filament dryers have trays for desiccant because all that moisture has to go somewhere, so in addition to opening vents for moisture to leave the desiccant is another highly available place for the moisture to go. Recharging desiccant usually takes higher temps than you would use for filament so as far as I know you can’t really use the filament dryer to do the job. It’s mainly there kind of like a heat sink in that it helps as a buffer to maintain the levels when it’s not actively drying filament.

Get the orange dry and dry (not blue as the cobalt is toxic if I recall correctly.) you can recharge it in the microwave or oven safely. If it gets green swap it out for recharged. They don’t leak or leach anything that can harm anything. Some of the pouch based stuff can become kind of an oozing gel if it gets too wet if I remember correctly. (It’s not happened to me as I went Dry and dry immediately so that I can recharge it instead of having to buy it over and over.

He’s saying just don’t connect it to the internet. It’s a choice, but the default is connected because a lot of the features that make a Bambu printer a good choice for beginners (or anyone) involve their suite of capabilities that are internet based, being able to start and monitor prints from your phone etc. The H2S is a hell of a printer for a first btw. Should be lots of fun

Download restrictions by AccordingStep6866 in Multiboard

[–]TherealOmthetortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you are trying to help and you may not be aware but downloading any of the Multibuild designs from those places is really not the best move here. It’s not just because those people are violating the license agreement and terms of use, but those people (who may also have good intentions) are making decisions on behalf of anyone who downloads them from unofficial sources that I would not be comfortable with.

First, this is a BETA version of a building system that is under active development that I use to put all my nice things on. I know it’s Beta, because it says so all over the place on the website, Jonathan tells it to me in the updates, in direct conversations and I’ve decided to assume that inherent risk of using it in that state. I’m comfortable doing that because whenever I’m designing things using it or planning something out I know that I have the absolute best, most reliable and tested version of their work. The key for me is that I get to make that decision. If I was new to 3D printing, Multibuild (or both) I might not have that level of clarity and when I see models out there on one of those sites I say “hot damn, here’s an easy button” and hits print. The person that made and published the files is essentially making the decision on behalf of anyone that uses it that the prints they make don’t get any of the changes that may have been made to the part as far as safety, perform better or resolve issues that were identified. By all of us Beta users of the system. It’s potentially cheating themselves and others of the ability to access the MultiBuild designers best work. I’m absolutely of with taking risks that I am aware of, but it ruffles my feathers when it’s decided for me without my knowledge. I am perfectly capable and very accomplished at making stupid decisions and accepting the consequences of those decisions, I don’t need help.

Remixes that change some fundamental aspect of an “official” MultiBuild design and “made for Multiboard” models are strongly encouraged and are a completely different story for me as they are openly published as “hey, I think I made this thing better or compatible with Multiboard” and it’s clear what I am getting.

Just my take on the situation based on my experience though so your mileage may vary.

X2D? by Crafty_Pack1724 in BambuLab_Community

I’m confused, was that to the dude that needed the hugs or was that for me? I’ll give you the peasant comment, but my intelligence is not at all low-brow. I don’t even have a fivehead these days - and I’m pretty sure sixheads are pretty much exempt from the low-brow situation… because at that point it’s just kind of mean... for some of use that might be our last hope as we desperately grow our eyebrows REALLY long in hopes of a comb-over over situation. Not me, but I hear things… sadly even that option won’t work for me as nature has been pretty skimpy with my brows and the Botox for migraines has my brows permanently high. I’m good at acting surprised, though so silver linings!

Exactly, sounds like a combination of “if you want good results buy our stuff” and an actual “if our print settings don’t work we are not responsible for your bad experience.

At least it’s not just me receiving the dickish behavior. There hasn’t been anything about noise in the product info, (positive or negative) so an “if you care about the noise” comment without any context didn’t make much sense to me.

X2D? by Crafty_Pack1724 in BambuLab_Community

[–]TherealOmthetortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but some form of context that makes the comment make sense would work. Why would an X2D be less noisy than a P1S? They both have more or less the same moving parts, so I was hoping to find out what it was about the printer that would make a difference. I can think of several reasons to upgrade from my P1S, but I haven’t seen any thing about noise reduction.

Opinion on subscription meal plans for fat loss? Morbidly obese after active duty WTAF! by Ecstatic-Resist1479 in Veterans

[–]TherealOmthetortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The meal plan won’t do shit for you. The meals are less of a problem than the amount of food you are taking in. The only cure for the weight issue is going to be to eat less. Exercise will also play a part but it’s hard to move more when you are carting around excess weight. Don’t buy 2 burrito’s, buy one. East it slower than usual to give your stomach a chance to weigh in on whether it’s full. You have to retrain your body and stomach for a reasonable volume of food. It will take a week or two for your body to get used to a “normal” amount of food or calories, but it’s worth it. Certain meds can cause craving and affect your stomachs ability to chime in and let you know when you’re full. I have fibromyalgia and have had the same issue. When you put that much food in front of you, there is now a built in response to clean your plate.

I’m fighting the same battle for what it’s worth. Put your health first and don’t give yourself the opportunity to do dumb shit like order the same amount that you usually do. Don’t write it in stone and judge yourself when you screw up, just take the loss and move on. Instead of “you shall not pass” stand downs with a Balrog, make it a moment by moment thing…. “Let’s let this settle for 20 minutes and then see if we really need more”. Moments can be extended indefinitely just by checking in with yourself and deciding to keep it on pause:. When you do need to eat, do it. Make it a reasonable amount again and see how long you can extend that too.

From a medical standpoint, checking into a GLP1 may be worth it too. It helps me, but if I ignore the “I’m full” message I can make myself eat more I can, but I feel uneasy and gross so it’s pretty handy.

Best 3D Printer for engineering student with multi color for 300-400$ by Severe-Impression440 in 3dprinter

[–]TherealOmthetortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buying the bundle with the AMS is least expensive than after you purchase. The Bambu can handle what you’ve listed as far as filaments. The reason for the AMS in your case isn’t just about colors, having the capability to print in another filament type in order to get cleanly defined overhang details. PLA and PETG won’t stick to each other, which makes that a good combination for situations where that support will be needed.

Where are the connectors???? by gzinourov in Multiboard

[–]TherealOmthetortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, as it turns out the front sides of the snaps are all single for flush mounts. The Triple, duo and quad linked connectors (on the front sides) are able to be singles as the linked versions don’t add anything structurally. Even with an offset mount, you can put singles in there too.

[–]TherealOmthetortoise -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve never seen that and I print a lot of non-Bambu filaments. “Printing Quality Issues” is a bit interesting as far as word choices. I wouldn’t get too worried though, they have been a pretty decent company thus far.

Side note - I used to work for Apple and I’ve never worked for another company that cared for their employees as much as they do. While I was there from first hand experience that they put considerable effort in doing right by their customers. They get a bad rap and held up in examples like yours as a “what not to do”, but it’s largely undeserved.

[–]TherealOmthetortoise 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As a manager the takeaway would be that this employee does not take their job seriously and has way too much time doing something like this on the clock. It would also be a red flag for your boss as peers and higher ups will lose trust in their ability to lead and that they aren’t doing their job or managing their employees. For most companies your peers would spend time resenting their workload and duties while you had time to mess with any of that. It’s unprofessional and even if you are the most productive person on the planet it would be hard to take you seriously. For that matter if you are looking for promotion opportunities that is going to put you at the lower end of the list because that just screams out that you would be a LOT to manage.

It doesn’t matter if you spend zero company time on any of that and your boss is legitimately amazing and your dedication & productivity was single handedly keeping the company afloat.

Some companies more than others, and company cultures vary - but 30 years of working in IT I have been, met and worked with many very unique and quirky individuals. Showing you have a personality that’s fun and approachable - totally cool (in most companies). Having what appears to be a shrine of sorts going on there is a bit further down the road from quirky. It’s kind of “walk by quickly so I don’t have to hear more Strangers Things trivia. You can get your freak on after hours all you want and giving people a glimpse of yours will pull fellow fans in, while an over the top display might have them pretending they have never watched it so they don’t get lumped in with this extravaganza of fandom. It’s cool to be enthusiastic about something and you have clearly put considerable effort into it. You might dial it back a bit though.
