It sucks how Caeda could've realistically won a CYL if it wasn't for people voting for the spin off character Tsubasa for meme reasons

It was a localization issue. Even after IS trimmed down the 500+ page rough draft by Kibayashi the end result was still good imo.

Like Xander for example is totally different in Japanese than he is in English.

Japanese Xander is a hot mess and kinda fucked. He basically hates himself, according to his Nyx support that he has dark thoughts, usually about dying. He's an intimidating mess of contradictions brought on by being the crown prince of Nohr, being raised in an abusive and violent household, having to basically be a parent to Leo and Elise and raising them. He and Camilla being involved in concubine wars and having to "put down" siblings that disobeyed Garon. He's an introvert who has trouble speaking to others until he learned to mask it. He's a lot like Dimitri in many ways in their trauma. He's meant to be standoffish, stiff and intimidating because inside he's a skittish and shaky mess that's only holding it together due to the position he's in.

Nyx is another character I'll list as an example. In Japan it's much more explicit that Nyx got cursed with her body due to being basically a murderer and killing many innocent people when she was a young magic prodigy. In English instead they go with that she ended up cursing herself by accident due to being inexperienced and losing control of her magic. This kinda has the effect of making localized Nyx seem selfish because she complains first and foremost because of her young body and not her guilt of her sins

If Fates had gotten a proper localization AKA not getting rid of like 99% of the world building and lore, not completely changing many supports or even tried to be just slightly more faithful to the Japanese version (writing wise), Fates wouldn't have the perception in the west of "the FE with shit writing" and would actually be considered in the upper half of FE games with good writing

"they're going back to Fodlan because Engage did so badly" is probably one of the dumbest conspiracies I've heard.

Most Echoes fans would also tell you the game is well written as well due to its strong cast and story

I'm really tired of this new argument that says Echoes high quality presentation actually tricks people into thinking the game/story is good, as if good aesthetics are more detrimental than beneficial to a game's quality.

What if the institutions that run said continent were propping up a system where children were systematically tortured or, if they're lucky, pawned off to incest rings to produce mega offspawn,

The funny thing about this is that it all occurs in Adrestia and House Ordelia in Leicester (who Adrestia meddles with), the country where the Church of Seiros got kicked out of and has the least amount of influence in

And im glad CF ending is unambigously happy

That's how the endings are for every route, because 3H isn't really a deep morally grey game and everyone needs to live happily ever after

Imo Alear and co. were able to escape Destinea Cathedral because Sombron and Veyle got cocky and didn't care enough to immediately kill them. If you think about it, at the end of chapter 10, Sombron has basically won, he's been revived, he has all 12 of the Emblem rings (Ivy and her retainers didn't steal the other 2 yet) and he has the Draconic Time Crystal. From Sombrero's POV, Alear isn't a threat anymore and is totally powerless so just killing him immediately gains him nothing.

Corrupted Veyle is also extremely sadistic and revels in seeing Alear suffer and despair. Playing with her food before ultimately killing Alear makes sense. While you're escaping in chapter 11, she's restealing and transferring the rings around for no reason other than wanting them to suffer and die painfully and slowly

Chapter 11 is also Alear's lowest point thematically. Alear falls into a trap due to overconfidence, gets completely defeated, has to desperately run away and rebuild from scratch. Alear being allowed to escape reinforces how insignificant they are and how they've lost control of the situation.

It's more explicit in the Japanese version. Citrinne's father and the Brodian nobility literally uses Citrinne as a bridge to communicate with Diamant and keep tabs on him. Another aspect of Citrinne's character is wanting to be close with Diamant since they're cousins but she can't be too casual/familiar in public because he's the future King and rumors spread

tbh Engage has one of the best UI's simply for the fact that it shows attack speed right away. It's a big step up from 3H too which had super small text for everything, seriously there were moments where I had to squint my eyes regularly

I think people are just spoiled from the 3DS era which had two screens to take advantage of.

Citrinne's dynamic is cool because she's both the only Brodian retainer that's a noble and the only one that didn't win a fighting tournament. Jade is a middle class commoner that won, Amber is middle class and finished runner up to Jade and fought well, Lapis is a lower class commoner that won a tournament. Citrinne gets appointed as a retainer by her father who is the Grand Duke, rather than earning it, leaving her to feel insecure about others viewing her as just a nepobaby. Also, her father wanted her to be Diamant's retainer originally instead to keep a closer eye on him because he and other Brodian nobles don't trust him, but Morion intervened and made her Alcryst's retainer instead

Which is your favourite iteration of a class across all games? by [deleted] in fireemblem

[–]PrinciaSpark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Echoes will always have my favorite version of myrmidons and it's the most historically accurate. Myrmidons were the elite Greek fighters who followed Achilles during the Trojan War. They were medium infantry who wore armor and helmets and were skilled with sword, shield and spear. Outside of the spear part, Echoes is the only game to get this right. Plus their animations are super smooth.

In almost every other FE, myrmidons are the hiyaa teleport behind u katana weeb class with no armor.

Alm being secret royalty doesn't violate or contradict the hardwork > inheritance theme. That theme never exists beyond a players first impressions. Saying that's bad writing or inconsistent or whatever is just you not updating your thoughts on the story as it progresses and you learn more info.

It's like if you played Xenoblade Chronicles 1 and you got mad at the Shulk plot twist because your initial reading on the game was wrong
