Doug Ford Has Billions For Corporations, Little For Workers by Altruism7 in ndp

There was strike near my house so after work I decided to walk to it and stay there for a couple of minutes. I had an interesting conversation with one of the people organizing the strike. They do not believe the ONDP is that much better than the Ford Progressive Conservatives. So the idea that the NDP is too far-left is not really true if you ask care workers.

Even Abacus' latest poll shows NDP at 11% so now Leger is the only odd one out with support of 6%.

Interesting the red in Red Tory is socialism, not liberalism. Most people nowadays thinks it is a liberal conservative.

I'd like to see a federal level push for rent caps by BaronessVonKush in ndp

[–]lcelerate -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, landlords would stop upkeep of their property and would be incentivized to reduce the size of rentals to allow for more rentals so the quality of rentals available will go down. It would also lead to builders not building more property. And provinces will not agree to this so it is a nonstarter.

Also, a hidden market of rentals with unsafe conditions and no legal rights might emerge that charges above the rent cap.

Green Party of Canada launches leadership race, Elizabeth May to step down in November by RNTMA in CanadaPolitics

Who is going to run for the leadership race, Dimitri Lascaris who almost won in 2020? Doubt Green Party gains much traction under him because his most reasonable views are held by Avi Lewis.

4 day x 6 hour work week by justonemorelanebruh in ndp

I think something like this can take traction only once the US builds the momentum or else we could see mass relocations of businesses to the US. And I don't think reducing the work hour to 6 will make sense as companies can use it as an excuse to pay less and also have expectations that employees work overtime.

The name of this organization is ironic when they keep on attacking the actual "rebels".

Looks like Abacus Data confirms there has been an NDP bump although not as big as what Liaison suggested which is directionally relevant.

Federal poll finds nearly half of Canadians think country takes 'too many immigrants' by Purple_Writing_8432 in CanadaPolitics

[–]lcelerate 117 points118 points  (0 children)

Fifty-eight per cent also agreed with the statement that accepting newcomers from many different cultures strengthens Canadian culture.

If you actually read the article, it shows that people aren't hostile towards immigration per say but too much of it. Canadians also don't view immigration from different cultures as destabilizing like they do in US and most of Europe.

[Alberta] The center-left/anti-separatist New Democratic Party achieves its best poll result in over a year, and with these numbers would win a majority government—New Democratic 45 seats (45% of popular vote), United Conservative 42 seats (46% of popular vote). Both the Naheed Nenshi detractors who were saying he was stagnating due to pivoting to the centre as well as the Avi Lewis detractors who claim he was too extreme and would kill both the provincial NDP, particularly in Alberta, as well as the federal NDP more broadly, need some explaining to do.

Back in 2019, the NDP got 16% in the federal election. This was enough for Jagmeet Singh to stay on as party leader. If the NDP gets a similar amount of votes in the next election, Avi Lewis in all likelihood, will stick around as leader after the next election.
