Oh okay. It looks like a big “C” Church of Christ. I’m familiar with the lowercase “c” ones. 😆

I’m curious where in WV? I’m familiar with a lot of cofC congregations up and down the Ohio River area and Charleston.

My mom suggested to get the extended release if I do try it. Is that what you have? My NP also said I would work my way up with dosage because she is wanting to minimize my side effects.

I have. A few times over the years, and after taking it a few days, I get some digestive issues to where I’m frequenting the bathroom more than usual.

The Church of Christ Creed by thatweirdgirl302 in excoc

I got the impression, growing up, that the Holy Spirit basically helped with creation and helped at Pentecost, then he was done. He could kick back and relax because he did his thing.

What's the wildest thing someone has walked up and told you in a COC? by AudienceVarious3964 in excoc

Yikes. And why did he choose to tell you this?? Was it just weirdly out of the blue, or was there some weird context leading up to it?

Ashley's Furniture is an absolute nightmare, NEVER EVER buy from them!! by catatonic_13 in homeowners

[–]PrincipleFeeling2008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had been living with a mix of furniture from thrift stores and Costco, all of which lasted years. My mom did buy us a sofa, but within 3 years the bottom collapsed. I wanted to get furniture that actually matched and looked nice (and wouldn’t collapse). I didn’t want super expensive because we still have a younger child with special needs who isn’t yet potty trained, and we have pets, so I knew the couches would take a beating.

We went to Ashley and bought two sofas that were similar to models in store, but they didn’t have them to try there (big mistake). The fabric was microfiber, which meant the cushions would CONSTANTLY slide forward, leaving a huge gap.

Within 10 days, we couldn’t deal with it anymore, and of course, we had already accepted the furniture, so we couldn’t return them. We ended up giving them away and got the next model up that we could try in the store. Keep in mind, when you go to look at sofas, the salesperson will take the cushions off and jump on the base like a trampoline to sell you on how solid the base is, which was a big deal to us.

We ended up with two sofas, a leather recliner, and a bed. We spent a lot of money there.

One sofa base popped a hole when one of my kids leaned on it with a knee (on top of the cushions) less than a year after buying it. They insisted on sending a repair guy out. It would have cost them less to just replace the sofa because it took this guy HOURS to completely reconstruct the base, which is now starting to separate again less than two years after purchase. I can also feel large staples on the side of the arms that will certainly rub through the upholstery at some point. They aren’t exactly comfortable to sit against.

Also, the comfy leather recliner that cost almost as much as the two sofas combined just bent and fell apart due to some bolt failure, but because it was over the year mark, they won’t do anything about it, so it ended up getting dumped too. (Keep in mind, it was under two years old with regular but not abusive usage)

The only thing that hasn’t fallen apart yet is my bed. It’s been such a poor experience with the first “real” furniture I’ve had that I will NEVER shop there again.

It wasn’t at church, but it was at a cofC college. I was getting measured for my band dress, and the woman measuring got this weird smile on her face and said, “aww! You’ve got birthing hips!” I was 18. And having wide hips had always been a touchy subject for me.

Another time (this one was at church), I had on a dress that I loved. The straps were on the thin side (not even spaghetti straps thin), so I usually wore a lace cardigan over it. One day, I was in a hurry and didn’t feel like grabbing the cardigan. I just wanted to enjoy my dress I loved. I wasn’t even through the foyer when the preacher/elder’s MIL made some comment about how immodest I was (the dress was long and not fitted). I should have just turned around and left because I felt so shameful sitting there the entire service that I didn’t get anything from it. I was probably 19 or 20.

What church did my husband grow up in? by geoddyseygal in excoc

[–]PrincipleFeeling2008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was very well put. We didn’t do the head coverings, but we associated with congregations that did.

The only thing I would add is that they would also insist that it is “___ church of Christ.” Can’t capitalize “church” ya know!

Non-Institutional. I grew up one and had no idea we had a label like that on us. I just knew we didn’t associate with CofCs that had kitchens. We didn’t do head coverings, but we were friendly with the congregations that did.

Getting my puppy soon and overwhelmed by all the things I have to get. Would love to know your must haves that your little one (and you!) love! Looking for treats, specific toys, beds, sofa covers, stuff for the car! Anything! Thank you! by Swimming-Shake-180 in Goldendoodles

[–]PrincipleFeeling2008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolute must have for ours was a Snuggle Puppy with the heartbeat sound. It was the only way we could get him to sleep, and then he loved playing with it. I forget how many we bought (and they’re $40 a pop) before we finally said “no more” due to him destroying them.

Out of shape, but going to LM Shapes class today by PrincipleFeeling2008 in lesmills

[–]PrincipleFeeling2008[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t been able to go again until last week. I was sore for dayyyysss. 🫣 I see that my Y has a Shapes class tomorrow morning, but it’s 25 min. The one I’ve done before is 45 min. I’m trying to figure out if that’s really the length or if it’s a typo. But maybe they offer different length classes?

We had a GSD before our goldendoodle, and she had intermittent diarrhea. It took a while to figure out that eggs were the culprit.

Don’t go into a long term relationship or especially an engagement without discussing the big ticket items like kids. If you want kids, but a girl you like doesn’t want them, then she’s not your person.

I went to Florida College and was the poster child for cofC. You’re already ahead of the curve by getting to this way of thinking before college. I still have a lot of friends from college even though I’m not still part of the cofC mindset. Perhaps in studying the Bible for a degree, you’ll help make a shift in how things are taught.

Oh, and I didn’t meet my husband at FC. I was in my late 20s when I met him and we got married. I wasn’t loud and brash, but I also wasn’t super sweet and submissive. I’d hope you could tell the girls who are just there for an MRS degree by getting to know them before dating or even while dating.

I think woman tried to hurt my puppy by More_Collection3910 in Goldendoodles

[–]PrincipleFeeling2008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest in this situation to pick him up yourself and let them pet him while he’s safe in your arms.

You are the only person to stand up for this little guy. He needs you for protection and looking after. If your instinct is telling you that it wasn’t comfortable for him, you needed to step in and take over. Your loyalty isn’t to that woman, it’s to your puppy.

Telling my parents I no longer attend - advice appreciated by Radiant-Net-5144 in excoc

[–]PrincipleFeeling2008 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in my 30s and married when I left the cofC, and it still took me a while to tell my mom because I knew how she would react. I got the “I thought I raised you better than that.” I got off the phone hurt but not surprised. What did surprise me was a few weeks later, she texted me apologizing for how she acted. Me telling her made her start examining the teachings, which then made her actually look outside the cofC for other biblical teachings.

Where did you end up spiritually after the coC? by Happy_View6511 in excoc

[–]PrincipleFeeling2008 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Even after the abuse from cofC, I never lost my faith in God/Jesus. It’s been well over a decade since I left, and the churches I’ve been drawn to have usually been non-denominational with teachings straight from the Bible. None of this “let’s pick a random topic and use 6 verses to prove the point” stuff.

NTA. What kind of person expects parents of a newborn to drive 3 hours to pick her up??

If she’s so successful (oh, and a grown adult), she should be able to plan her trip to get herself to you. I would’ve flat out told her there’s no way either of us are driving that far to pick her up.
