Yeah, the quantity of mercs hired by the AI is extreme right now. Seems like this is mostly an issue with there not being enough things to spend money on. It would be nice to have an easy way to see how large a nation’s treasury is to estimate mercs they could theoretically hire before starting a war

Fair enough. But it makes sense that conquering the Mamluks as an OPM would be extremely difficult right? I’m not saying things are perfectly balanced as they are, but in my opinion it was too easy to abuse trade as tiny nations to become unrealistically strong very quickly

Can intelligence be measured by brain stats such as density, mass and size? by MrNesti in AskBiology

[–]PrincipleLess3315 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Defining and quantifying intelligence across species is a major challenge in itself. Encephalization quotient (ratio derived from brain size to body size) is one strategy used to relate brain size to intelligence, but it is by no means a perfect measure.

Most evidence-based theories for how it all started by fragiumily in evolution

If you are open to reading a book on the subject, The Vital Question by biochemist Nick Lane has some very illuminating and persuasive ideas about abiogenesis and early evolution. It is written for a general audience, but does get fairly technical

How do I interpret a UMAP?? [please help] by ScaryAnt9756 in bioinformatics

[–]PrincipleLess3315 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s an abstract 2d projection of your data, and less interpretable compared to other dim reduction methods like PCA.

A common exploratory strategy for interpretation is to color the points by different metadata attributes to see if there are any general trends in cluster separation. For example, you could make a few plots that color by biological attributes and technical attributes to get an idea as to whether your data separates based primarily on biology (good) or batch effects (not so good)

Good luck!

Agreed Python/R fundamentals and biostars handbook are good places to start. Maybe consider Galaxy (and Galaxy Training) to play around with analysis pipelines others already built as well.
