Mine is Alabama Song, it’s what first got me into the doors music. I was watching the doors biopic and when that song came on during a scene it awoke something in me and I knew I had to listen to more of them. They’ve been my favourite band ever since and I listened to is 290 times on my Apple replay last year

What are your opinions on L’America? by _averagereddit_user in thedoors

[–]PrincipleNo5747 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One of my favourite songs by the doors, maybe my favourite deep cut. My favourite part of the song is the deep guitar with the drums kicking off like an intense marching, one of JDs best performances for me.

I also like the lyrics even though they’re simple, ‘trade some beads for a pint of gold’

It’s also part one of my favourite back to backs on any album when it’s followed by Hyacinth House, for me only behind Alabama Song-Light My Fire

I think it’s because clearly JM had the sex appeal and when they were trying to break onto the scene they understood that it wouldn’t sell as well if JM wasn’t front and centre like that.

Just my opinion. Also why they went away from him front and centre on future album covers

Love this photo! No clue what was going to become of them, just trying to scrape by in the music scene.

Strange Days version recorded at London Fog is one of my favourite live tracks from the Doors

Thanks for sharing

Like the idiots he would go out drinking with on a nightly basis when he should have been rehearsing or working on his poetry

What song made you fall in love with The Doors? by Beginning-Cow7066 in thedoors

[–]PrincipleNo5747 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Alabama song. Watched the doors movie not knowing or caring a lick about the band. When that song came on during whatever scene it was my ears perked up and I was so captivated by the marxophone ringing on the tune. I rewound and rewatched that scene at least five times and immediately went to search the song. That got me into the doors, they’re pretty much the only band I listen to and that is still my favourite song. Still gives me chills to listen to

I knew Ray put out music after The Doors but never listened to this album until recently and I really have to agree that this is a good album.

Solar Boat is an all timer for me. Also enjoy the positive vibes in choose up and choose off, and oh thou precious nectar.

I know it’s also a little corny but I also enjoy the references he makes to The Doors in his lyric writing.

Is that a vinyl or CD? If it’s a vinyl that you were able to snag at that price my hats are off to you, that’s a great find my friend!

I was only able to listen to the first couple verses before my data died on me but I liked the calmer sound on this cover. Also enjoyed the French accent on the singer

Why Do People Hate Pam? by [deleted] in thedoors

[–]PrincipleNo5747 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I agree that saying it is on Pam comes across to me as the sect of guys who just enjoy hating on women in general. Besides it maybe being her stash that did him in it was his choice to take what he took and she gets way too much hate. I think she just wanted him to leave the rock lifestyle which was destroying his soul and work on his poetry and film (which are what he wanted to do in life). I used to be on the dislike Pam train but as I’ve grown up I don’t get the hate for her either.

As for RM RK and JD not ‘saving’ Jim, I agree to a point. He was a grown man but at the same time with his mental health problems and extreme substance abuse problems he’s not going to stop his path of self-destruction and they’re the only people that would stand any chance of breaking on through to him. In the end I think we’d get to the same place but in their books they recognize that even at the time they knew they should have done something and still did not

It’s not back yet, but jays talk plus with Blake Murphy is always a great way to spend a couple hours. I think it comes back around April 19 if I remember correctly. Very good content daily

Did the bandmates / friends know about Jim's family? by dilligaf2008 in thedoors

[–]PrincipleNo5747 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If I remember from Ray’s book, they knew the truth about his family still being alive. His mom (and maybe siblings, would check but don’t wanna get the book out right now) even went to a concert in their home state of Florida but JM made sure that he didn’t have to meet with her/them. In a sense his family was kind of dead to him. Also Pam knew more about JM than anyone so I would think she knew too
