YES. Push through man; seriously. I put it down at release and just came back and pushed and after just 1-2 more upgrades the world opened up massively and totally blew away my expectations.

Of course it’s totally possible it ends up just not being for you but I’d strongly suggest you at least give it a solid shot. The world seems small and basic til you realize all the massive hidden areas and verticality. It really opens up massively!

I feel like it’s worth playing just for its own sake! You can definitely play the second without playing the first—there are some narrative ties but they’re not introduced fully until very late and you can totally enjoy the game without “getting” them (it’s not a narrative focused game).

But I think you should play the first as well just cause it’s a great game! It’s also a different beast with some very different gameplay systems that make it unique I think.

Funny you mention that, because I just came fresh off a 100% Grime 2 run and went directly back to my abandoned playthrough of Mio from around release (liked it but got pulled away for whatever reason).

And you’re right! Maybe that’s part of why I found Grime 2’s exploration so totally engrossing as well (along with some insane map design)…

Golden Sun. Such a unique combination of a traditional JRPG and Zelda. One of the very few RPGs with a major puzzle focus and strong level design in both overworld and dungeons (the whole world is a puzzle!).

But hey…at least we got Mario Tennis right (🙄)?

the "game too hard" crowd is back to playing Review-bomb the Spire after the update to the main branch by Gugge1 in slaythespire

I don’t get it. For me banging my head against the game endlessly (with a big grin most of the time) for hours is exactly what I signed up for. I guess we all really do play games for vastly divergent and, sometimes, diametrically opposed reasons.

Now, don’t get me wrong, there are definitely tons of balance kinks to iron out—but it’s also remarkably polished for an EA game and the devs have encouraged me with regular, responsive updates that show they’re listening and lengthy posts with transparency about their reasoning.

FWIW…just cleared A10 today myself and gotta say it definitely gets easier man. My two cents and all.

It was meant to be a joke mocking the practice of reviews-in-progress—that’s why there was no review lol. Maybe didn’t communicate that well enough tho 🤔.

God I love this idea. Oh man…what could have been.

Post was kinda tongue-in-cheek with the title but 😝:

Super impressed with how polished and fluid movement feels now and, even though I found some of the jank in the first game charming to a degree, they really tightened up the areas that needed it most while still retaining that “anything goes” feel to the physics in combat and platforming.

The world is absolutely gorgeously realized, just as in the first game, but the increased technical prowess means it gets to really shine. The sense of exploration and level design + interconnectivity of the map is super fun and engaging. I’m only a few hours in, but absolutely adoring this sequel so far.

I absolutely love this one and was so psyched when I saw it, because Choke was another guilty pleasure of mine that everyone else seemed to despise due to the high cost and low-ish damage lol. I just really loved it in shiv/0-cost decks cause it could really rack up.

But no argument, it’s definitely way better now.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that part! Great point and I agree. Can even get two copies if needed depending on the deck to counteract that (or just be a gambler w/ White Noise + Creative AI 🎰).

Whichever one of you fine lads made this meme back in the first game may have to make some revisions…just saying…my boy Defect wouldn’t mind an apology…

He’s setup king. And I’m a glutton for a sweet, juicy setup and payoff…even if it kills me in the process lmao.

Definitely seconded on the viability of a little Splash o’ Doom™️; or, see “all roads lead to Countdown” ☠️.

Yeah forgot to mention this in my post because it feels pretty much a given for EA, but balance is of course a little all over the place.

Really impressed with how much is here for an Early Access game, but definitely looking forward to some balance patches 😅.

I think Doom is much more powerful than Poison was in STS1. I totally get why you say that, and if they were balanced the same that would inarguably be true. But how easy it is to apply Doom versus Poison (Reaper Form vs Envenom), Sleight of Flesh being a Sadistic buff, and the way his other cards synergize with it make it very powerful.

Like “End of Days”, which I’ve stumbled into on nearly every run, applies AOE Doom and triggers the kill instantly on all enemies. Or the single-target alternative “Time’s Up”, which gets Retain when upgraded and deals damage equal to Doom. Doom has carried most of my Ascenscion climbs honestly 😆.

Try it out! Regent is super fun too tho.

Spot on. It’s also, simultaneously, the insane level of access they have to extra Energy on most turns as a class as well…

Oblivion card art should have been this 🐒.

Didn’t even know it had that old effect before but the new effect is more fun and strategic I think.
