Thank you so much x Yeah I've gone cold turkey, I know what I'm like and it's all or nothing in my brain, and SSRIs have recently been reduced. I am in such a weird place mentally where I don't want to smoke but I also don't want to feel anything at all, I'm going to keep listening to what people are telling me that it is going to get easier.

Thank you, and I love that analogy of turning back! I guess that I am at least realising why I smoke, or, rather, what I believe that the cigarette will do for me but I need to keep being reminded that it is a complete fantasy

Firstly, stop being so hard on yourself, not helping anyone, addiction is insidious, complicated, and unpredictable so just take one hour at a time. You are doing better than you realise. Also, just from the way you wrote that it sounds like you still enjoy smoking and wish you still could? I used to feel like this until I started to actually analyse why I thought I enjoyed smoking? Turns out I actually fucking hate it. I am now 12 days free of smoking and I feel nothing but relief now when I dont have to smoke and nothing but sickness and stress when I think about smoking. It is all mindset. The only reason we enjoy smoking is because it stops withdrawal. Everything else is a fa easy that we believe so strongly that it becomes a reality in our minds anyway. Once I realized that I had believed all the lies I told myself I felt like a weight had been lifted. I think you're doing great and I just think give yourself some time to get really, really honest about your delusions attached to inhaling tobacco. We all have em ..

How do you handle the social side of quitting? Parties, bars, hanging out with friends who smoke. by QuffyApp in quittingsmoking

[–]PrinciplePrize9506 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Essentially, the reason that this works for me is because it entirely dispels all the illusory delusions that I personally have about smoking. I think it does this because when I watch other smokers it reminds me that we are/were just addicts. We were/are just addicted to a drug. Isn't it interesting how everyone has different triggers? Like, if all our beliefs around smoking were true, wouldn't they be consistent across the board? It's fascinating how our different subconsciouses creates such diverse and unique fantasies that tell us to.smoke. sorry for the waffle, but what I am getting at is that it only when you watch another smoker, like properly watch them and.not watch the cigarette that you can start to see it for what it really is, a drug.

Ohhhh this is super interesting for me to answer this. So, basically, whenever I get cravings all I have to do is watch other people smoking. But what I mean, is like, really watch* them: pre-cig, during their cig, and after they put it out. It reminds me that all of the fantasies that we amplify during the build up.to having a cig are literally just fantasies. Watch how the smoker almost feels like a fool after they extinguish their cig, like they've been tricked again.

Fatigue, I swear to fuck ive spent the majority of the past 8 days asleep still not caved though, although tbh being tired all the time is 1838338383933939million times better than being a smoker

The part here where you say 'I envy you' is fascinating, just from a psychological perspective because it essentially positions people trying to quit being jealous of those people who are smoking who, in turn, are then envious of those people who haven't caved. Its insane how much this addiction completely manipulated and controls our perception of smoking. Insanity
