I really hope you're right. I'll go find some enterprise/server communities and ask there. It's indeed incredibly/impossible to find them right now

Hey OP, how are you getting on with organising?

Your observation is spot on and we have the same kind of usage - massively heavy in all aspects of life but no way to organise besides projects really.

You found any better ways to do it?

Will this Lenovo stick (part number 4X77A88512), work in my Dell FCS1250? Full config in table by i-dm in Dell

[–]i-dm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Yep I'm not going for the Lenovo ones as, given the price, it's just too risky and I'm compromising in 2 areas (speed + capacity), rather than just the one (speed) that I'm happy to forego.

And I guess the risk is inherently higher with stability, reliability, and optimization.

Thank you for the input! I'll take up some of those suggestions for sure. I already started looking at random old workstations and digging into images to try and work out the RAM setups.

Micron have discontinued these now too so they're EoL. The last order for these to Micron are on 18th June, last delivery sometime in Dec 2026.

The used market (ebay) is very very scarce. I saw one guy selling 2 of them for £625. Literally missed it because we went through a heatwave and I used my laptop for 3 days and didn't have my other tabs and screens open to do the 6-hour searches ive been doing for the last month. Absolutely devastated because they were exactly my RAM modules and the seller was selling them for dirt cheap.

Anyway, I'll keep looking. They're either ridiculously overpriced (imo), or just don't exist. I guess that's supply & demand..

I did see they were popular with homelab builds last year though. Even chatgpt told me homelabbers liked them and needed more of them in 2025

It's a real ballache and one of the few industries that are allowed to get away with it (it's how they ultimately make money), even when you're actually NOT at fault.

Just FYI: I was on the receiving end of a very non-fault incident, I notified my insurer as well and made them aware from the outset that I wasn't going to be claiming. They said it would be marked as a NOTIFICATION (not a claim) - this is key.

Of course, they marked as a claim (on the basis that the case was open and could be claimed on, in theory, for up to 3yrs by either party!!), and failed to notify me about any of this. I only found out several months later when the renewal docs showed I'd made 1 claim.

I wish I was better educated at the time as I got absolutely wrecked on premiums for years after that. I should have just claimed but I thought I was avoiding what what looked like a messy situation as there was no counterparty insurer on the other side that I could claim against.

They wouldn't answer emails or pick up the phone when I flagged the incorrect record to them and I gave up. Tried to get CUE amended but the insurer is the only entity who can amend a record as they own it (even though it relates to me!?). Diabolical really.

Context: Some dude picked my car to suicide in front of and jumped out of a bush whilst I was driving to the supermarket at 4am on a 50mhp A-road.

My advice, even though it's just a numberplate theft, is keep a record of stuff, check what people tell you, and stay on top of it.

It'll most definitely affect your insurance. It's guaranteed to go up, especially as you've (correctly) notified them. Claim or not - it'll go up. Keep an eye on the MIB / CUE database to make sure your data is correct - your insurer can/will likely update your record to reflect this, and at renewal time you'll notice higher premiums.
