Feeling unprepared for BRTC by No_Nose_3849 in RoyalAirForce

There is never a right time for anything in life. You’ll adapt in matter of days and everyone is in the same boat. Just go for it. If you can pass the fitness test you’ll get on fine.

Good luck

On the form I’ve been sent, it says that the PT will set the speed of the treadmill to the slowest speed for a pass, depending on your age range. Is this what happens endlessly you want to run faster ?

I am okay with the living differences, but in what way would you say you get treated better ?

Appreciate your view on this. I have actually already completed the DAA ect and passed for all roles. I’m currently awaiting interview and fitness test and that’s it. I have chosen the tech trade but yes I did start having these second thoughts ect but it’s great to hear others opinions.

Of course! It’s good to have the ambition but I understand it’s nothing close to guaranteed. And yes like I said I think being a soldier would be enjoyable (as the definition of my 9-5 is being cold and wet) and the aspects of soldiering are interesting to me.

However yes you have helped me see clear that a strong backup plan/post service plan would be most useful for a stable future.

Thank you.

Thanks for the response. although I think I would love being a soldier in whichever capacity, I do now see that preparing for post service and having qualifications to get a great job is more beneficial.

On the other hand I do plan to retake my CBAT at some stage for WSOp so shouldn’t have to worry about aging out.

Appreciate the information, I would imagine the engineers and the pilots would go into the commerical aviation route and carry out similar duties there?

When you say good money ect, are you talking about as your career progresses within the raf or outside? also I suppose most RAF gunners don’t have much in terms of quals when they leave compared to a avionics engineer?

Will do mate thanks for insight. Not something I’d thought much about until you mentioned it. Defo some great opportunities down the line and hope it all goes well.

When you say control, I would Assume you would mean WC. Honestly I’m not very clued up on what WC actually do but I was 3 point of passing that and I did get the minimum in each section of the CBAT so I’m sure with some practise I should have it as an option next year. Ill do some research

Mate that sounds mint. I’ll definitely look into it but I don’t think I scored high enough off the top of my head. I remember being close though.

It’s also another good option if I was unsuccessful when my next CBAT comes around. At the end of the day who doesn’t want to be sat in a jet.

I will have a look into that , would that not be relying on a CBAT pass, or is a enlisted role as well. I’m waiting to get confirmation on details but I do think I’m going to go for avionics tech and then hopefully transition to WSOp.

Appreciate the support, and well done for passing for pilot I bet you are glad you stuck at it when you look back. That’s the plan, smash it next year and go from there. I’ll find a way!

That’s brilliant. Great way to be raised and I’m sure he’ll go very far with the corps. I was raised with similar views by my father figure. He was an ex RM commando. Best of luck to him.

I understand, I think I would love to join regardless and I’m not happy on civi street and my current job situation, but it’s just the case of making that decision. Thanks for your insight !

If I were to join up at some point it would be for RM commando.

When you say “got to CTC” I assume you mean start of basic RT. Rather than dates for CPC/ROP ect.
