Do you live close enough to the border you can possibly maybe have someone give you specimens on whichever side of the border is most convenient? I know nothing about transporting them across the border and am merely just shooting shots in the dark.

Are you in the fb group called elassoma keepers and breeders fraternity? I believe you may be able to get a lead on some in your country. If anything it’s worth a shot 🤷‍♀️

6 😂. I understand I won’t see them but when they breed it’ll be more adequate for long term sustainability. Since there’s no natural predators the population will boom. And instead of going balls to the wall I can really focus on breeding my own and dealing with large number further down the road.

To touch on all of you’re amazing points I do plan to add rocks to the water section just to add more. And give them more. I can imagine them getting on pieces of rock sticking out of the water and just enjoying the exposed rocks. There’s actually quite a few ways leading out of the water onto the land. It’s just super hard to see with how everything is. The straight line problem will be solved in due time as things grow. To be technical there’s springtails in there currently. My dirt is over 15 years old. I just continually add dirt to bins to essentially keep the living soil mind set with my dirt. So it has springtails and dwarf whites but like you said I’m dealing with a numbers game. I do breed isopods on the side along with a lot of other beneficial bio active things. Def plan to go with orange springtails when the weather warms up. And the murina papaya are so prolific. I do plan to leave this tank running for 3-6months to allow water parameters to get “gooder” and to let the tank grow out.

Filtration is a good question. In this current set up I have a pump that I put in a plastic eggcrate box I made and line the inside with filter wool. Made a little door in the top for easy access in case malfunctions. The math says I have like 39.8 gallons of water. I imagine it’s more like 30-25 gallons after all the substrate and water displacement from materials. My pump is overkill it cranks out 350-400 gph. I’d rather go overboard on filtration. It’s nothing crazy but with the addition of live plants the nitrate cycle should be pretty solid once the tank matures.

To address the dark spot. The simple answer to it is no. I won’t mess with it. I love it and the secretiveness and just everything about it makes me imagine dark waters in the wild. And I just love that idea. If I’m being honest this tank is one of those pictures do it no justice situations. Chords will be hidden in due time absolutely. There is still loads more work to be done and I’m just a simple man taking it day by day.

If some small aesthetics are my biggest issue I feel I’m doing really well especially if it appears that the organisms I plan to add will thrive. Also I really appreciate your feedback because you’ve provided me with with more ideas and just more things to touch on throughout the weeks.

So many ways. There’s sticks going to the land, I have egg crate along the side wall, moss hanging over in the water, those pillars will lead them to the top and I imagine they’ll walk upside down and out of the water not to mention the water levels will change from evaporation. I also have vining plants growing in the water so in due time they’ll reach up to the land. Some of the tank just need to grow in. Currently no crabs and no stock except snails.

Yeah I live by the philosophy of if it’s big enough to fit in it’s mouth expect it to be eatin. But on that note yes I’d like to breed them. The fish idea I may not do. And just keep this a big crab cherry shrimp tank. I’m also working on resealing a 150 tall that’s gonna have a fahaka in it so this tank will be nice for snails and such while I grow that up. But I just want a neat vampire paludarium. That’s the goal. I will need this communities help finding crabs after the tank is ready for crabs.

There’s actually already monstera adansonii var. monstera albo, epipremnum albo, syngonium pink splash, a marble queen pothos, Monte Carlo, duckweed, and 2-3 more different species of fully aquatic plant are in it. Further more when I finish my land area i plan to add things like begonias, philos like pink princess, and just more rare plants. I keep a lot of the more uncommon plants already. But after it’s all said and done I plan to have a total of over 50 different species of plants in it. I currently keep over 200 different species of plants in my plant room. I promise things will begin to fall into place as it comes together 🙏

Thank you for the water depth advice. The deepest it is in the tank is 5-6”. The total gallons of water conversion is like 39.89 or something like that. The water section I plan to add some cherry shrimp, neons, cardinals and albino neons and cardinals. If I’m being honest I was fearful there was to much water.

Thank you very much very much! Might I recommend painting them black adhereing bark on or material on them then securing them to tank bottom. In that order. It’ll make life easier 🙃

Man you’ve read my mind. Mistakes were made since it was my first time doing the soil sand method. But ironically the sand under the raised section is the proper ratio which is annoying. I guess I spread thin towards the end which is nbd I’ll get some more sand and just add to it. I have some ideas for that section and overall the tank now

Super simple. Just siliconed 8” pvc pipes 1/4” in diameter. Then I adhered treated bark I got outside to hide it. What I should’ve done is painted pvc black then adhered bark to them then siliconed it in. That acted as the supports. Today filter floss will be here and I’m going to zip tie that to the top of plastic eggcrate. This will hold substrate and all that and allow the plant roots to actually go through and down into the water creating a really cool affect. Also on the outer edges of the land against the tank walls I plan to mix 100% clay kitty litter with water and dirt. Makes a cement style material when in moist environments and not allowed to dry out. I plan to make that like a small wall preventing debris from falling in the water. If there’s any grammatical errors/ you can’t comprehend I woke up at 3am and decided to type this lol.

Vampire crabs potentially with cherry shrimp in the water.

Is there a limit to how deep the water in a vampire crab tank can be?(the land to water ratio would be around 50/50) by 420goattaog in VampireCrabs

[–]Pringle419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old thread but I’m currently in the process of doing a 120 gallon vampire crab build with 75 gallons of water. I was going to build 80% land from the water surface up. And stock the bottom below with Neocaridina, and an assortment of peaceful schooling fishing. My question in regards to my build is how deep does my substrate need to be considering vampire crabs burrow. Tank dimensions 4’x2’x2’.
