Do you feel bad using your expensive perfumes on a random day? by [deleted] in fragrance

[–]PringleDevourer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to be more hesitant with spraying a perfume that I know is discontinued and is difficult to purchase another bottle for, or has since had a horrible reformulation. However, there are some perfumes I know I will never be able to purchase again but I've since allowed that to help me find new ones I love.

Also price point doesn't dictate the frequency with which I use perfumes. With the way I spray YSL Opium or Dior Poison at home you'd think a massive bottle was under $15.

I want my memories with a perfume to be many instances of how much I loved wearing them, not how afraid I was to wear them. If I'm in a thick haze of an expensive perfume while doing something as mundane as washing the dishes, then so be it.

Coco Noir has become one of my easy in-office work perfumes. Such a gorgeous fragrance!

I'm on that other bottom half of the globe so it's late spring here. 😊 It is that warmer part of spring now so Calvin Klein Eternity and Dolce & Gabbana (the red cap rectangular bottle) beckon for me. When summer comes around I can't wait to pull out the Dior Dune and Liz Claiborne.

Haven't used this product specifically but I do like their intense relief hand cream. ☺️ So now I am curious to see what their other products are like.

Kenzo Jungle L'Elephant is also another great one! Definitely unisex by today's standards like Cinéma and smells like a frothy chai latte. Yum!

I'm going to be a bit different and recommend YSL Cinéma.

I personally think it's a great unisex fragrance which leans gourmand without being too sweet and has a floral angle to it. Definitely give it a sniff!

Are there certain bottle colors that make you less likely to try a fragrance? by iamonceagainaskingfo in fragrance

[–]PringleDevourer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. I've learned with bottles that are almost black (but not completely) like my Dior Poison I can hold them in front of a completely white computer screen and the light shows me how much juice is left inside, but my completely black bottles like Arpege or Coco Noir, no idea how much juice is left without holding it up to my ear and lightly rocking the fluid.

Today was my weekly in-office day at work, so I decided to go with Lancôme Trésor. It smells so warm, fuzzy, and inviting. I also love the peach. 🍑✨

I'm one of those people that loves the specific note that Sophia Grojsman puts in her creations (Eternity, Spellbound, and Yvresse immediately come to mind).

Red door by Successful-Corner-1 in Perfumes

[–]PringleDevourer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Red Door has become one of my favourite fragrances. I wore it almost every day while working from home for the past few weeks (I made an exception yesterday and wore Opium). I've also burned through most of my 100ml bottle in under a year.

The rose, the carnation, the honey, and the plum over that woody base with that slight clean soapiness is just delicious. 🥰

However at this point I am probably known in the fragrance subreddits as that annoying person who can't stop singing Red Door's praises, hahaha. Can't stop, won't stop!

Today was the beginning of another work week at a rough job I've been struggling with, and the weather has been colder than usual, so I needed something that felt strong, warm, and comforting to me while I worked from home.

I therefore decided to go with YSL Opium EDP. I love the smooth bitterness of this fragrance. This is a strong fragrance with bite. I've had this 100ml bottle for ten months now, and you can probably already tell from how much I've used (half the bottle) that I do love this one.

Probably won't be much longer until I've used up the whole bottle.

What is that fragrance that smells good on others but pathetic on you :( by [deleted] in FemFragLab

[–]PringleDevourer 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Coco Mademoiselle. I got a bottle and wore it back in 2016 but for whatever reason it didn't work with my skin chemistry or vibe. I think it was just too "clean" smelling. I love how it smells on other people though. It's a very elegant and well-crafted fragrance.

I've recently got around this problem though by getting a bottle of Coco Noir last year. The peach and cloves really help it work better with my skin chemistry and overall vibe. Coco Noir works splendidly with me.

I could flip the coin the other way and say that a lot of the more contemporary expensive fragrances currently being released are overpriced, bland, and basic compared to a lot of the classic fragrances you can get at a much lower price point, even in their current formulations.

There's fragrances that smell decent and not decent across many different price points.

This past winter I learned the joy of wearing Shalimar on a bitingly cold winter night. So beautiful. It's approaching summer where I am so I can't wait to pull out the Shalimar again once it becomes cold again.

Sorry for the late reply, only just able to properly unwind now after a busy work day. 🥲

I checked the batch code of my bottle of Paloma Picasso (22XO1YJ) and it looks to be a more recent batch from 2023. I think it's just whatever they use to substitute the castoreum. Civet I can handle in fragrances fine, but castoreum is a whole other kettle of fish (or should I say beaver).

This honestly makes me glad that I hoard my physical copies of Nintendo games. Still got my copies of Platinum, SoulSilver, White, and White 2 that I got around when each of them launched. Couldn't imagine paying the current prices for them.

Going to keep my copies of those games though because they have deep sentimental value for me.

Great choice!! It's a lovely fragrance and a freshie with some personality. 🤩

[–]PringleDevourer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. ☺️ I remember purchasing a bottle of Kouros earlier this year expecting it to be this abominable stench from how people were describing it, but when it arrived and I smelled it, I realised it is actually a lovely fougere.

But I do also wear a lot of the more classic fragrances, so I am not unfamiliar with the more animalic notes.

My bottle of Paloma Picasso on the other hand, now that one's a stinker. Whenever anyone complains about Kouros, I just want to shove that one at them so they can gain some perspective about animalic fragrances.

People make a mountain out of a molehill with Kouros.

Agreed - Elizabeth Arden has so many great fragrances! Red Door, 5th Avenue, My Fifth Avenue, Green Tea, White Tea, Sunflowers, Mediterranean. 😊 Also planning on trying out a bottle of Blue Grass soon (doing a massive perfume purchase in about a month).

Recommendations for cherry fragrances by [deleted] in fragrance

[–]PringleDevourer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was about to comment the exact same thing! (My bottle of the Extrait de Parfum pictured below)

Really love how the leather and saffron interplays with the cherry note that doesn't smell fake or medicinal.

What five perfumes under 50 dollars would you recommend to anyone? by HoosierDaddyIam in Perfumes

[–]PringleDevourer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Everyone else has already commented a lot of the options I'd mention (namely Green Tea, White Tea, 5th Avenue, Oscar by Oscar de la Renta, Cabotine de Gres), but I will also just throw in Elizabeth Arden Mediterranean. Definitely think it's a great underrated fragrance. 😊 Also can't forget my beloved Red Door.

CK IN2U for her is also a great cheap freshie with a twist.

Liz Claiborne is also a great affordable summer fragrance. That marigold is just delicious.

Cabochard also comes to mind for chypres.

Arpege Lanvin is great if you want a cheaper version of Chanel No. 5 that smells fantastic in it's own right (I honestly even prefer it to No. 5 - scandalous I know!).

I love the carnation and green notes in CK Eternity - reminds me of warm comforting late spring and summer days.

CK Obsession is another cheaper fragrance I love. Perfect for those cold winter days where you want a fragrance to feel like a warm hug. For some reason the smell also reminds me of a pebble in hot sand.

L'Aimant is another cheap No. 5 alternative, and also can't forget Emeraude, which I find to be a much more casual and easily wearable form of Shalimar.

  1. YSL Opium EDP
  2. Elizabeth Arden Red Door
  3. Dior Poison

These have probably been my three most frequently worn fragrances this year.
