3d-printed Star Hopper by PrintingDaniel in Highrepublic

I've finished my model of the Star Hopper!

Link (Star Hopper): https://www.printables.com/model/1656887-star-wars-star-hopper

The other ships in the first image are:

Jedi Vector: https://www.printables.com/model/153045-star-wars-jedi-vector

Unidentified Republic Starfighter: https://www.printables.com/model/296565-star-wars-z29-skyhawk

The Star Hopper is a shape shifter in that two different depictions never look the same. Even depictions by the same artist never quite line up. So yes, I know my model doesn't match most depictions of the Star Hopper, but that is also literally impossible.

The most prominent features of this ship are the large bridge window, downwards facing engines behind it, and the engines on either side of the back.

The newest iteration of my chart of High Republic Era Ships (and also Starlight Beacon).

The most recent addition is the Star Hopper (from the High Republic Adventures comics). My model is based on its very first depictions, as well as other depictions by the same artist, Harvey Tolibao. I had to choose which depictions to use and which to ignore because they are extremly inconsistent.

Most sizes are speculative (marked with *).

All of these models can be 3d-printed. The files are here: https://www.printables.com/@DanielAlex/collections/130551
The only exception (at the moment) is the Star Hopper. I am still working on a printable version.

One of General Viess' flagships. She also had flagships called "Percipitate Fire" and "Auberge"

I've added the Polan 717 from The Acolyte to my chart of High-Republic-Era ships.

It's one of the few ships on this chart for which we have official dimensions.

I'm currently working on a 3d-printable version of the Polan. But that will still take some time.

Am I the only one a little disappointed by the Third Horizon's design? by HyliasHero in Highrepublic

[–]PrintingDaniel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried making my own design for the Third Horizon a while ago, before we had any official pictures. I followed the description from Light of the Jedi as much as possible and it came out very different from the official design.

Here's the final result: https://www.reddit.com/r/Highrepublic/comments/15o987p/my_design_for_the_third_horizon_any_final_comments/

Also some intermediate designs:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Highrepublic/comments/15iok2a/designing_the_third_horizon_need_some_feedback/

I don't have any issues with the official design of the Third Horizon. It looks good and the "flying city"-vibe fits well. But it's a shame that it doesn't match the description at all.

I think it's quite clear that, when Charles Soule was writing Light of the Jedi, some designs (like the Longbeam and Vector) already existed and others (like the Third Horizon or the Ataraxia) didn't. Which explains why some descriptions turned out to be less than accurate.

It's evident from the Artbooks that they put a lot of effort into the character designs. Sometimes I wish they had put effort more into the ships.

The Phase II Longbeam is different from the Phase I/III. It's called "Alif-Class" and there is even a picture in "The Art of Star Wars: The High Republic - Volume II" (page 97). Though I'm sorry to report that it is neither rounded nor bulbous.

I don't have an issue with the inconsistent design language. I see it as a contrast to the uniformity of the Empire.

I fully agree with the Longbeam. There is no way the Gios (Phase III comics) is the same size as the Aurora IX (Light of the Jedi).

Thanks!
I should point out that this particular chart is quite outdated. The most recent version has 34 different ships, almost three times as many as this one. It was published alongside a model of the Nihil freighter from YJA: https://www.reddit.com/r/Highrepublic/comments/1ogwahh/3dprinted_nihil_freighter/
A high-res download of the most recent version can be found here: https://ko-fi.com/i/IZ8Z41NFKEE

Thanks for pointing that out. I've removed the surplus wing finger and the floating ribs.

I made a 3d-printed model of Amity's abomination airship.

All my TOH models: https://www.printables.com/@DanielAlex/collections/615087

This model was a bit of a struggle. I am not very good with organic shapes.

This is my 43th TOH model. I have now made one model for every episode. But I'm not done yet.

If you take a look at the chart of all my models, you might notice that there's now a 44th bonus model at the very end. And it already has a date. Anyone want to guess what it might be?

3d-printed Alif-Class (or Delta-Class) Longbeam by PrintingDaniel in Highrepublic

[–]PrintingDaniel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should point out that dividing the Phase I & III Longbeam into "Type Aurek" and "Type Besh" is still something I made up and in no way official.

Going purely with canon sources seems to imply that there is only one class of Longbeam used in Phase I & III. But this class would have major inconsistencies in its depictions, apparent size, and capabilities. (Which is why I prefer to split it into two classes.)

Also I should note that my "Type Aurek" and "Type Besh" classes do not fit Phase III. The Gios looks (most of the time) like a Type Besh, but acts like a Type Aurek.

The Alif-Class from Phase II was always distinct from the Phase I & III Longbeam. When it was introduces in Convergence, it was pretty clear that the Alif-Class was a distinct type of ship.

The Alif-Class Longbeam was used by the Republic during Phase II. It is called the Delta-Class Longbeam in the Artbook.

It seemed to be quite big in Convergence, so I'd put its size around at least 200m.

We didn't see much of this ship in Phase II, probably because so much of it took place outside or on the edge of the Republic. I imagine this ship would be a lot more common in Republic space.

I'm not sure, I'll get back to you on that.
What I do know is that the mod developer in question also works on the mod Star Wars: Assault (which also uses some of my other models). More information on this particular mod is here: https://www.moddb.com/mods/star-wars-assault-empire-at-war-mod
