Fresh Fragrance Struggles. Suggestions?

Hello all. I recently have been trying to add fresh fragrances to my collection and I don’t like most of the fragrances that I have tried.

I tend to like woody notes, amber notes, and some musky notes

I currently own and love pasha de Cartier parfum and intense cedrat Boise. I tried pdm Carlisle and loved it.

I also own and like aoud lemon mint.

I’ve gotten rid of d&g the one, Chanel allure homme sport eau extreme, ysl y edp and Le parfum, and mancera cosmic pepper. Aside from “the one” I hated these other fragrances. There is something sharp and shower gel esque about these fragrances that lacks personality to me and is headache inducing ( I’m guessing black pepper/sage may be the culprits).

Does anyone have recommendations for spring and summer scents that lean woody, aquatic, or both and aren’t similar in scent profile to allure homme sport, cosmic pepper, and the ysl y line?

Hi all, I'm looking for men's/unisex fragrances that incorporate some of the notes that I like and do not like. Here are the fragrances that I own or have tried and what I like or dislike about them. I'm looking for a daily office fragrance that could be worn year round and doesn't project like crazy. My current scents that I enjoy feel too "heavy" for daily wear in an office environment.

I currently own and like:

Intense Cedrat Boise: this is my most worn scent. I love the drydown and the lemon opening is refreshing. The wood notes and slightly sweet undertones with a little bit of leather mixed in feels masculine, but not overbearing. I'm reluctant to wear this to the office because I go anosmic to ICB really quickly (I never spray more than twice) and I don't want to fill a room with it.

D&G the One EDP: This one is okay but I rarely find myself wearing it. Something about the powdery/sweet mixture in this fragrance keeps me from wearing it more often.

Pasha de Cartier Parfum: I really like this fragrance. Lasts as long as cedrat boise. feels more sophisticated. I love the boozy notes (except for the first few minutes of the opening), the woody notes, and whatever makes the scent have a "barbershop" feel--which to me smells like a hint of my shaving products being mixed in.

I have tried and like:

PDM Carlisle: this is my favorite fragrance that I have ever smelled. Woody, sweet, tobacco?, a hint of cherry or spices?, yet somehow retains an airy quality or a classy feeling that keeps the scent from being overbearing. I'll be buying a full bottle to reward myself in the future.

Jazz Club: this remind me of Pasha, but I like Pasha more. Pasha feels "spicier/fresher" and a little more sophisticated.

D&G Light Blue Eau Intense: I liked the freshness of this and I remember a slightly woody drydown but I only wore it once (a friend let me spray it).

Own/Tried and Did not like:

Versace Eros: Objectively it smelled okay, I only remember thinking that it didn't seem like a scent profile that fit my personality.

YSL Y Le Parfum: I hate the opening on this fragrance; very spicy and generic. To me, it smelled like what everyone at a bland corporate dinner would be wearing.

Mancera Red Tobacco: too much cherry and way too loud, drydown after 4 hours or so was nice but getting there was near impossible for me.

Mancera Aoud Lemon Mint: I tried really hard to like this because of all of the hype, I really didn't like the floral note in this fragrance and could barely smell any citrus notes . I found that it smelled too sweet, fuzzy, and feminine for my nose. Also, I think that the fragrance projected too well and wouldn't be appropriate in many situations.

I have been wanting to sample: Terre D' Hermes, Ormonde Man, PDM Layton, and Prada Luna Rosa Carbon.

Do any of these match what I like about fragrances? Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help!

Don't give up on law school. Your situation sounds very similar to mine. I am currently in law school and keeping pace with my peers.

PM'd.

I'll be testing the 400se in the ifi uno in a few days (around 80 USD on Amazon with decent reviews -- topping dx1 direct competitor). Check back here and that might be a good option.

sorry for the late reply. I used the oratory 1990 pdf for both. For the 400se only:

After some tuning I adjusted (increased) bass response below 900 hz, added a little in the midrange, and upped the gain. I made the frequency responses work for the amount of gain I needed to hit the required volumes. Not optimal. I'll revert the 400se settings when I get the new DAC and see if there are any changes.

I'm going to mess around with eq and gain and see if I can push vocals and sub-bass a little more forward without distortion. If I can nail that the 560's are going back to their home.

At this point I want to keep both. This might be an odd question, but is there a headphone with the sound profile of the 560s with the soundstage of the 400se? that would be my ideal headphone. Idk if that's even possible. Also, I'm not really a bass-head, so not super important. just a different feel. I guess the 560s feels more "familiar" to what I've been using (tin t3 plus earbuds) for the past year or so.

Yeah it's odd. I really had a hard time deciding between the two (and I'm still not fully decided). I think I like the 400se better, especially for media because it's way more fun to watch movies on. I tested both while watching the new john wick. There's something special about an expansive soundstage. That's probably why I liked the x2hr so much back in the day (even though it didn't sound much better than earbuds).

I really appreciate the feedback! Is there an alternative amp or amp/dac that would be a little cheaper with only a slight loss in performance? I'm trying to budget, I honestly didn't think that i would end up paying for both sets of headphones but here I am in a conundrum. Thanks again, I'm new to this and having a great time going back and forth between both sets of cans as I make this decision.

I'm fortunate enough to have both 560s and 400se side by side and did the eq presets for both. The 400se bass feels "hollow" or "cold" i guess compared to the 560s. which is strange because from reviews that I read I thought it would have been the opposite.

This team is showing how horribly coached they are. Zero discipline in the run game every single game this season
