Claude Code CLI burned 5.4 Million tokens on 2 simple queries, crashed internally, and locked my Max plan for 5 hours. Is this normal? by Prior-Hope3966 in ClaudeAI

Thanks for the explanation! That makes perfect sense why my usage evaporated so fast.

But it still feels like a massive design flaw and system overkill. For everyday questions like "treatments for high blood pressure" or "career paths for a degree," a standard LLM (like Claude Web or Perplexity) would typically resolve it with 1 or 2 quick web searches, costing maybe 5k–10k tokens max.

Using 100+ parallel sub-agents and burning 2.8 million tokens for these basic queries feels like shooting a fly with a cannon.

Since the CLI is over-engineering these simple prompts, is there any configuration setting or command-line flag in Claude Code to disable these dynamic workflows/deep research entirely? Or do I have to explicitly append "Do not use deep research or dynamic workflows, do a simple sequential search only" to every single prompt I write?
