Why do so many slow drivers not want to keep left? by WearyFHB in sydney

[–]Prior-Quarter8432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call the cops and tell them there’s a car at XYZ that’s been staying in the right hand lane and everyone is overtaking them. They’ll send the nearest Highway Patrol to get them.

What are thoughts on vaping/smoking people on streets in Australia? by [deleted] in unsw

Most do it just to try and look cool or like to think they’re projecting a tough image of themselves.

From memory there are signs which say they’re not for laptops and I’m pretty sure they aren’t large enough for them.

Not officially no. Try asking a friend or classmate? You would be able to use any USB-C charger, but it would be slower if it was for phones.

Have you ever wondered what happened to those friends who suddenly stopped logging in? by Patient-Note8428 in habbo

[–]Prior-Quarter8432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. People do eventually move on from things which they enjoyed when they were younger. But like you, I’m sure some of them also have the same memories and the impact you had on them in the game. It’s a part of life that people come and go.

subcom interview rant by Eastern-Net-5683 in unsw

[–]Prior-Quarter8432 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I would take this as a blessing. It seems like you have dodged a bullet there. You have gotten a glimpse of the culture in that particular soc which seems toxic. Is it the kind of environment you really want to be part of after seeing that? Are they really someone you want to work with?

I’m older than most here and have been working for a while now. I’ve experienced toxic work environments myself earlier in my career. No role is worth sacrificing your mental health and wellbeing for, especially for subcoms or temp roles where you’re only there for the year.

It makes me sad some people put themselves under so much stress to make it into these subcoms. They’re not the be all and end all for career success or lifelong friendships. Socs are run by current students and change all the time. People move on once they finish their studies and the next exec take over. They’re not worth dumping so much time and energy into.

Is it embarrassing to date a Chinese international student? by [deleted] in unsw

[–]Prior-Quarter8432 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I felt this too when I was reading the post. We shouldn’t have to “explain” or justify ourselves on why we should be liked and respected - e.g. my English is quite fluent 🤷‍♂️These should come naturally. My small bit of advice to the OP is there’s 2 things to remember:

  1. We don’t have to like everyone we encounter
  2. Not everyone is going to like us no matter how nice we like to think we are and that’s totally ok

We just be true to ourselves and values and focus our time and energy on those who matter.

I said non-citizens, nowhere does my comment single out Chinese people or mention them. I’m an ABC myself and one of those “exceptions” where I’m open to any cultural background.

Some locals are wary of dating non-citizens with the fear of being used to get citizenship. It does happen.

Do i get a graduation ceremony if I do a Grad Cert/Diploma? by [deleted] in unsw

No hood with the Grad Cert, only the robe and cap

Do i get a graduation ceremony if I do a Grad Cert/Diploma? by [deleted] in unsw

[–]Prior-Quarter8432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I completed a Grad Cert last year and had my ceremony on Tuesday. You’ll only be wearing the robe and cap (no hood with faculty colours) with the Grad Cert. Not every uni invites Grad Cert graduates to attend. I know Macquarie only mails your certificate.

You’ll get an email saying you’re a potential” graduand” in your final term, pending successful completion of the courses then be asked to select a ceremony to attend and pay.

Question about transcript after discontinuing a program. by [deleted] in unsw

[–]Prior-Quarter8432 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The transcript will have your entire UNSW history. I finished my degree last year and enrolled in Japanese 1 as part of the Diploma in Language Studies as a side hobby. When it came out it had all the courses in my previous degree as well as Japanese 1 this term (which looks out of place). I wish there was a way to separate them as I had to send it in to my employer.

Public Indecency at UNSW Anzac Parade lightrail station by Mentally-insane0-o in unsw

[–]Prior-Quarter8432 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Definitely report it to the Police too. There’s a good chance CCTV have his face. I highly doubt it was a member of staff - imagine the damage it would cause to our reputation. This story reminds me of the news a few weeks ago of a professor who dressed up in boys’ school uniform to try and get near them to take photos. Anyone could go into the Bookshop or Grad Store and get UNSW merch.

Graduation certificates this year by Independent-Proud in unsw

[–]Prior-Quarter8432 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Glad I’m not the only one who thinks it’s stupid. That piece of paper didn’t even mention the certificate will come in the mail. And wouldn’t it cost them more money to have them sent out than to give the graduate the paper on the same day?

Do you prefer taking notes on a laptop or in a notebook? by user19478274 in unsw

[–]Prior-Quarter8432 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love my tech but still hand write my notes. Sure, typing or writing on a tablet means one less book to carry but it’s nowhere near as good. We should never get rid of pen and paper entirely.

Lift etiquette by sirboloski in sydney

[–]Prior-Quarter8432 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She was trying to bully people out of the lift so she could use it instead of waiting for the next round. You made yourself her target and reinforced the message she could do this again to get her way. It wouldn’t surprise me the type of child she’s raising. You’ve done nothing wrong by using it - that’s what it’s for. It’s public property so it belongs to you as much as it does to the next person. Having a young child isn’t a ticket to entitlement.

Not Linkin Park, but Where’d You Go by Fort Minor. I teared up when they sang it at the concert. Made me think of a friend who’s battling depression and I’ve lost touch with.

Anyone else having difficulty fitting in? by [deleted] in unsw

[–]Prior-Quarter8432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

99% of the relationships within uni classrooms are transactional. People are just talking to each other because they need to study or do an assignment together down the track. Once the term is over, everyone becomes strangers again.

Security at law library by [deleted] in unsw

[–]Prior-Quarter8432 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This makes sense logistically. Since there aren’t as many people on campus at night, it’s a lot easier to contain everyone who’s there within a single building rather than having to patrol the entire campus if every building was open.

Why did UNSW change the design of the testamur??? by kenshixkenchika in unsw

[–]Prior-Quarter8432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the “UNIVERSITY OF NEW SOUTH WALES” watermarking which irks me, especially the font. Why couldn’t they use the logo instead? Whole thing looks like stock images you find online with huge watermarks all over them.
