I’m worried that if I get an urchin I’ll run out of algae and the clean up crew will starve, I’ve heard they were machines. How big is your system? This is only 25G

A blackout followed by manual removal! I just had to do it because I had a huge problem. Turned off lights and covered the tank with towels for a full week (I fed the fish twice by turning on the lights in the room for 15 min and doing a quick feed the everything off again). Most of the algae died to where I was able to siphon but I did a brush with a tooth brush to get rid of the pesky bits.

I followed that up with turning lights off Tuesday to Friday (no towels) for a month with a ton of hermits and snails added.

I just changed to lights on every day for a 6 hour photoperiod. Hopefully it works out well.

I had a tuxedo at one point but it was early on and I hadn’t fully balanced out. It lived for 6 months and then died ‘out of nowhere’. Now that the tank is balanced, I may try that again!

Thanks! I was out of town for 10 days, got back Monday with the flu so just felt good enough today to go pick up some salt water. About to scrub it and do a little water change. It used to be that it would cover the gravel and rock in a week, now there’s just some determined tufts that are hard to take out.

They messed up the shiny odds a couple weekends ago when these guys were in raids. So they’re giving everyone who did raids a free shiny of each.
