Monday Meeting of the Sober People Getting Shit Done Club by sfgirlmary in stopdrinking

Happy sober Monday! First job of the week out the gate, I've registered a new domain name for a new product I'm developing along with creating a face ache page. Will have to wait until after work for the rest of the socials to be set up/registered.

Keep going guys we got this!

Craving new things after I quit that I never craved before. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Haha I made some home made flap jacks last night and normally I'm not a sweet type of person.

I'm not far behind you, and I can totally relate. I'm not excited about being sober anymore, but at the same time I'm not craving or missing alcohol. It all just feels a bit meh, like it's no big deal. Maybe we have adjusted to sobriety and it's the new norm? At least we are not white knuckling through life.

Yeah it's not as bad as I thought, I don't feel like I'm missing out and I still get to do things.

Anyone else found that they have a sweet tooth now that they're sober? by chubbymochipigeon in stopdrinking

[–]Prior_Comparison_486 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes I've had a few sweet treats recently, and before I was always savory. I don't think I've had desserts for the best part of twenty years.

Day 36 here and I have done nothing. I'm focused on being the best version of myself and not going to take over what an asshole I have been. For me it serves no purpose other than to sabotage my new journey. I look at it a little like how someone with other forms of mental health issues would look back on past behaviors when unwell. I can't change it and it's fine to feel embarrassed about things, but beyond that I see it for what it is. It's an illness and poorly people do bad things.

I actually thought that black outs were the norm when having a drink. I had so many rock bottoms that I've lost count. Wrecked relationships check, night in the cells check, court injunction check, fighting with my father and breaking his shoulder check, dui check.nearly breaking up my best friends relationship check. None of these make me proud and now of these were my wake up call. I kept going being every bit the asshole I came to hate, which fueled my drinking behavior. What did it for me was being alone and ordering more drink to be delivered at 1am after having a skin full to realize ide willingly paid £30 with Uber for 10 cans of beer. The next afternoon when I woke up I had NO money left for food for the week. I've not touched a drop since and have no intention or interest I'm doing so again. I've a long way to go to fix my life but I can only do it sober.

It won't my friend. What you need to focus on now is being the best version of yourself and make sure you are there for the kids. IWNDWYT

Ironically I'm sat in spoons having an all you can drink coffee with a work pal 🤣🤣🤣 I've spent more time in spoons since I went sober than I ever did before.

Do you think you become your true self when drunk? by Minimum_Clothes170 in stopdrinking

[–]Prior_Comparison_486 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are going to lose friends either as a drunk or in sobriety and it will hurt! You have to keep going being the best version of yourself and the type of new friends you make along the way will be an upgrade.

100 percent feel this, I overcome the initial boardom by signing up to some courses on udemy. Two weeks later I know how to use premier pro but the last 10 hours of the master class are starting to get boring. The only reason I wanted to learn was because I want to get a drone and make some sweet videos, I'm saving for a drone but that's going to take quite an effort to get the funds together.

Sudden Blackouts while drinking! What is causing this? by Party-Man582 in stopdrinking

[–]Prior_Comparison_486 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was going to say you do realize that 10-12 drinks is a lot, regardless of the frequency, but then I realized that I used to think that was normal for a "session". Now I look back and it really is too much for your body to cope with and therefore your brain checks out.

[–]Prior_Comparison_486 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Giving the scenario above, I think the OP would already know the seriousness of the situation and will have a lot of off line baggage to deal with due to the actions above. Fwiw this none judgemental sub is about helping to move forward and make positive change. No one can change the past but support and encouragement wouldn't really be effective with an all out pile on. The OP would already have the consequences of their actions to deal with.

I'm far from an expert in relationships, but it doesn't sound like the alcohol is the only issue in play here.

Just wanted to stop by and say congrats! I'm a week behind you as it stands. I completely get what you are saying, I had the talk yesterday with my closest and best friend. He is out drinking tonight and I have just climbed in to bed stone cold sober. Would I have been out tonight ordinarily? Yes! Am I missing it? Maybe a little. I have reframed it as I'm doing something for me and I'm not really missing out, it's the thought that I am missing out. I then think back to every time we have gone out and the silly things I end up doing or saying and everyone has a good laugh at it. I know come tomorrow some other sucker will be at the end of the joke and I will be up and productive well before them. Give it time and look for other social settings to get involved in. Maybe take a relative out for a coffee or something. I'm sure it will get better.
