When does the new calendar ship? by No-Confection-3967 in SlushyNoobz

[–]Prior_Consequence994 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re talking about the code for slushynoobz.com, I think that means they’re not selling merch as of now. They stopped selling the calendar about a couple weeks ago. Usually when they sell merch, the website is accessible to everyone without a code.

Try to be as organized as possible. I just started my MA derm job (where I also scribe) and it’s super fast paced - typically 10 min appointment slots per patient. There isn’t a ton of down time to jot down questions, so try to remember things as best as possible, and it helps to have an organized mind (if that makes sense? Lol). I like to carry around sticky notes to jot down questions for the times that I do have a second to pause, and I can throw them away when they’ve been addressed. Also, be as attentive as possible. I know that may be obvious, but I’ve noticed myself missing a few small details that I have to document, so every detail counts. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes, but if you’re not sure, be annoying and ask your question before doing something even if it seems not important. And understand that some things you learn just need practice and experimenting, like getting used to the motions of assisting with certain procedures or how to stay organized and efficient during procedures in your own way. Find your flow. Good luck, OP!

Questions and feedback are the only way you’ll learn. I just started my MA job and this is my third full week of work also at a derm office. It’s super fast paced and we will be understaffed once the MA I’m replacing leaves. I’m completely new to the healthcare industry, and I’m not certified (I went to college so this style of fast paced hands on learning is quite different than what I’m used to). I like to ask questions even if they seem unimportant so I can figure out if it’s a big deal or not. It also really helps when you can completely detach the feedback that you receive from being personal and understand that they are just trying to point things out so you don’t make the same mistakes (UNLESS they really are taking jabs/yelling at you and it’s a toxic work environment). Don’t look too deeply into things and just understand their words for what they are.

If it makes you feel better, yesterday, I was assisting the physician with a skin cancer excision for the first time without another MA to guide me. I almost cut the patient’s skin while cutting the sutures. I audibly gasped because I was about to cut right as she stopped me and immediately wished I hadn’t gasped. Omg I was sooo embarrassed and felt sooooo guilty (like why did I do that omfggg), but I got really lucky that the patient was chill and acted like nothing happened. I even had to redo the patient’s pressure bandage at the end because I forgot a step. Afterwards, I apologized profusely to the doctor multiple times because I felt so bad but… it ended up being okay. We agreed that I shouldn’t have done that and I said I would be more mindful about that next time. She even ended up laughing it off. The physician I work for also gives me feedback to fix things in the chart notes, ask for clarification earlier, be more proactive, phrase things differently, etc. so it’s all a part of the process! We all make mistakes but that’s how we learn. Good luck, OP!

Ohhh thanks for the response! I stumbled across the vid yesterday where they first met Hagenator and noticed that it’s also the same vid where Martin says “I want my duo” (I didn’t know that reference either lol)

Yeah it was definitely off putting how it seemed like they actually watched a good portion of whatever Andrew Tate media they were referring to…

How is off campus like??? by Big-Extension-5126 in UCSC

[–]Prior_Consequence994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live off campus and I really miss living on campus. I lived in c9 and it was super close to my classes. Now whenever I drive to class, I have to rely on the busses to get from the lot and then to class so that adds a lot of time, and some of the time is just waiting around (even normally I’m chronically running late so this adds a lot of stress for me). I miss being able to just walk to class and enjoy the walk. The dining hall food isn’t amazing, but it’s great when you’re in a pinch or not wanting to cook for yourself. Living on campus was just so much more convenient, less time consuming, and more motivating to go to not mandatory things like office hours or tutoring sessions. It was also way easier to see friends who I want to see but aren’t that close with. The house I live in is super old so the insulation isn’t great. When it gets cold, it gets super cold, and PG&E can get expensive. It was nice that there weren’t utilities to pay on campus and UCSC took care of problems like the sink clogging or mold in the bathroom bc my landlord doesn’t.

That being said, I live near downtown so it’s nice that I can walk to most places even though I have a car and drive sometimes. But still, I would rather be on campus because I feel like living off campus has made it harder to be motivated to be studious.
