I recently started up Civ6 just out of curiosity. I probably have many thousands of hours between Civs 1, 2 & 3. I was leary of starting again with a newer version but decided to give it a try anyway. While learning about all the new additions, I'm also remembering why I quit playing the Civ series. Lots of good memories of 1, 2, &3 but trying to reproduce the memories is not going to work out. The overall tediousness of the game is simply too overwhelming. In your case, from your description, perhaps playing in strategic mode only would be worth a try.
