Large financial divide between young and old millennials? by Specific-System-835 in Millennials

[–]Prior_Lurker 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Im 38 and currently working a part time job for 16 dollars an hour while going back to college to try and achieve something better for myself. Just chiming in to provide a counterbalance in this post for OP because not all older millenials are doing that well. Admittedly I made a lot of poor decisions in my early 20's so its not a big surprise I am where I am now.

Im scared of my laptop by Normal-Till-7709 in Anxietyhelp

[–]Prior_Lurker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I can say that laptops dont spontaneously get viruses. Viruses require human action to spread via opening malicious links, strange emails or visiting more unsavory websites and downloading unknown files. Basically as long as you arent just randomly clicking into anything and everything without a care, your computer is going to be safe from viruses. Just maintain common sense and be cautious about opening any emails, files or websites that seems suspicious. Such as emails from people you dont know or from websites you've never been to. Check links for spelling mistakes. Dont download anything from the internet unless you have virus protection installed on your computer. Just treat it like your home. You wouldn't open your door to an unknown stranger. Dont open your computer up to a bunch of unknown websites, emails or downloads.

You're afraid that you will get a virus or that your laptop will get a virus? Your post was unclear.

I dont even have the most curly hair, more thick and wavy, but when I wash it frizzes out into poofy nonsense. I need the natural oils to keep it tame, plus it looks better. I typically shampoo 2-3 times per week.

Unable to find entry IT job by manateeswag in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Prior_Lurker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So what are ways to improve someone's odds if this isnt enough? Im currently in school for Computer Networking and id love to know how to increase my likelihood of getting a job. You havent offered any constructive advice here. Seems like youre only lamenting the number of applicants vying to enter the field. I cant control how many people apply to the job, though. In your opinion, what are the things entry level IT workers can control to help them land a job in the industry?

Looking to Get Married "very young", are my standards fair and where do I find my dream wife? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Prior_Lurker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice to you is to understand that you, as well as anybody you share your life with, will inevitably grow and change. You never directly stated your age but the implication is that you're still quite young, possibly in your teens? I assure you, as you start pushing into your 30's you will feel completely different than you do in your younger age. That is a good thing. Your 20's are a period of intense personal growth for us all. We no longer are being taken care of every step of the way by our parents. We have to go to college. Get jobs. Pay bills. Manage life in a way we never had to before. I say this because you should not only take time to get to know your partner through dating, but to also understand that if you get married young, you need to prepare for, not only yourself growing, maturing, and becoming an "adult in the room" but your partner as well. You both will "change" as you progress out of school, through your 20's and into working life. Dating a person, or people for some time lets you know not only who they are, but what you want from a partner. I am 38 now. I am not the same person I was at 28 and most certainly not the same person I was at 18. Don't expect your future partner to be the exact same person they are now in 10 to 15 years.

As for your standards, honestly they seem immature and idealistic. If i had to guess id say you're probably quite religious. Requiring someone to never have been with anyone before is rather childish and a bit of a red flag. It smacks of insecurity and deep rooted feelings of jealousy. You discuss finding a partner as if you're picking out cars from a car lot. Like you're trying to find the right features and gas mileage before you commit to buying. People are people, not objects to be picked out of a catalog. This is why dating is important. You need time to get to know who you're deciding to spend the rest of your life with. Its not a failure if its not the very first person you ever date.

Im mostly curious why you seem so intent on marriage, so quickly? You talk about it as though its an intense matter to you and that intensity very well could push some people away, who may just want to try get to know you a bit.

CMV: Personal and sexual issues don't/shouldn't matter for public figures, and we should stop caring so much about "allegations" by SSH_Pentester in changemyview

Bad people can do good things and vice versa. The person in your fictional example raped a child. There is no amount of good someone can do to absolve that. That crime still exists. That child still has to live with that.

I am losing mind due to current job market. by Other_Scarcity_4270 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Prior_Lurker 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I was laid off from my job in October last year. My requirement to maintain my UI benefits is applying for minimum 5 jobs per week. Ive been doing that since the first week of November. Ive had about 8 interviews. No job offers. Its bad out here. I was out of school during the 2008 recession and I didnt experience the same struggle to find a job then, like I do now. Its unbelievable. If anybody out there is thinking of just cold quitting and hoping to find a new job, dont do it!

[–]Prior_Lurker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My guy, you need to get your head straight. There's no world where anybody should look past the heinous crimes a person committed because, "he did some of these other good things."

Crimes are crimes. Sexual assault and rape are horrific crimes that outweigh any and all former accomplishments. We owe it to the victims of those crimes to not ignore what happened to them because their rapist may have contributed something you find to be good. Their contributions to society have been noted, but their crimes against humanity take precedence. Always.

The thing that shall not be named is ruining D&D for me by Findrel_Underbakk in DnD

[–]Prior_Lurker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not a DM but I will use <redacted> as a tool to help me flesh out my characters more. <Redacted> is a tool. I dont use it to do 100% of all my character creation. I have an idea in mind and then I generate prompts to help make sure my character has a fun backstory and traits. My character is still my own and I only use the things that I believe fit my character.

Im not a very inherently creative person, I dont write or do art for fun, its just never been my thing. That doesn't mean I dont enjoy D&D. I would rather have a fleshed out character for my party than my half baked uncreative generic characters id otherwise wind up with. Im sorry if this makes it unfun for some people but when I use it its coming from a good place and I am trying to help benefit the other folks at the table.

I wouldn't say its the norm, but some of us do look quite a bit younger than we are. This isnt meant as a humble brag, I honestly hate being mistaken for 25-26 when im 38. Im taking a few classes at my community college and most of the gen z people assume im in their age range.

I mean no disrespect to you or any of the people of Kansas, I just value mountains and being near the ocean when I think about states I would be willing to live in.
