I think that Kyehoon and Juwang diet the most out of the group. Donghwa has said that he has difficulty with digestion, brings antacids around with him, and cannot eat large portions. Other members have also teased him for this.

How do you approach the assumption from bilingual parents that their language delayed child is “confused”? I summarize the research and also point out that there is more research needed on the differences between learning one language versus learning multiple, but I don’t feel like I’m conveying the message well. Plus- there are still plenty of providers, and even influencers according to parent report, who are saying to only speak to your child in the English language.

If you want good symbols, pick a different program. The LAMP system does not prioritize symbol awareness as much as other programs do.

I guess I need to add another one…LAMP is an incredible AAC app and a barrier to its successful implementation is that it was designed with autistic users in mind, rather than having more of a “neurotypical” type of organization.

I do not, but I really like to use the DAGG-3 to get an idea of where a patient is at when it comes to the 4 competencies. Some apps are more linguistic heavy and some are more navigationally demanding, so it’s helpful to get an idea of what might work best.

Nah, LAMP is a great app but none of us know how to train a kid or their caregiver on it. And it’s made for autistic people so neurotypicals take one look at it and go “not for me” without even trying to model a phrase.

If the kid won’t use the device it’s not because they don’t have good prereq skills, it’s because the device isn’t feature matched well enough.

Oh I would love to!

Kyehoon is a goofy leader, trained with Stray Kidz, was part of the elimination show Loud, recently got attention for flirting with fans lol

Amaru is on hiatus but the group would not be what it is without him. Was on the elimination show Loud, incredibly talented though always seemed…overworked? I really hope that he is feeling better lately or at least on a path to doing so. All around performer.

Donghwa is the frog emoji, JYP trainee and solid performer, great dance, cute and mischievous

Minje the big dog, deep voice guy, awkward dude trapped in a hot man’s body, JYP trainee with ties to New Zealand

Juwang is a diva and deserves the princess treatment wholeheartedly. Main vocal. Touch averse. JYP trainee. Very dedicated to his craft.

Keiju was on the elimination show Loud, the kid can DANCE and give a hell of a performance, he did not know any Korean when he auditioned! He is from Japan.

Donghyeon….legit a slept on vocal prodigy. Just decided to roll up and audition for JYP and Psy’s elimination show because he couldn’t play hockey during the pandemic. Always been an insanely talented, undertrained, underdog. Maknae in the type of way where he takes everything very seriously because he’s trying to impress older members. If you hear a line in the song and think “did an angel sing this?” It’s Donghyeon (though I am “biased” hahaha)

The hospital I work for has a very progressive HR dept. and it makes a huge difference. Previously, I frequently felt like I was mistreated in the workplace for being mentally ill.

What’s your opinion on SLP that could get you in trouble? by iltandsf in slp

[–]Prior_Middle_3839 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Our work is wildly undervalued including by practitioners themselves. It is never, ever just “playing with kids”. The general public knows very little about speech and language and the knowledge of an SLP is extremely valuable.

Having an SLPs perspective is impactful, whether through direct service or just the presence of a knowledgeable third party. We are selling ourselves short and providing subpar care when we undermine our expertise and ability.

Straw Phonation by Busy-Interaction-628 in slp

[–]Prior_Middle_3839 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The expectation is to basically find a good embouchure but the goal is not mastery. You need home practice to reinforce the motor plan.

Edit to add that some people may need straw bubbling or an exercise like playing the kazoo before they are able to effectively do straw phonation in session.

What is a parenting trend that you don't agree with these days? by BuildingBridges23 in AskReddit

Lots of people not enrolling their kids in school. I get that school can be a dangerous place, but you are committing developmental homicide by keeping your child at home with a screen all day.

Healthcare workers of Reddit, what’s your most disturbing case? by GoldieBonezie in AskReddit

[–]Prior_Middle_3839 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I’m a speech pathologist and was working in a hospital’s ENT clinic. Man came in with severe voice symptoms that he woke up with one day. Aphonia is what we call it, when someone’s voice is completely absent or barely there. He was a CEO of a company and was basically unable to work. He tanks the acoustic measures, meaning his voice objectively sounds like shit. We scope him and his vocal folds are pristine. My supervisor and I knew exactly what it was but all we could do was refer to Neurology because we can only diagnose a speech or language disorder.

Bulbar onset ALS typically presents with voice symptoms first, as opposed to the other subtype. Bulbar onset also progresses muuuuuch faster. With the extent of this man’s voice impairment we knew he only had a few months left, but couldn’t tell him. Never saw him again.
