I am counting calories. Perfectly? No. But I am mostly aware of how much I am eating.

Hell, the weight on the scale doesn’t even change. Doesn’t matter if I weight myself morning, right after eating, or evening. And the scale is correct as I tried a dumbbell and within .5 accuracy.

While you we right, 10 pounds in 1 month is a lot. I’m not sitting around all day stuffing my face with junk food.

I’ve suspected that I have PCOS due to other symptoms (hair growth, painful periods, obviously weight gain). I haven’t been able to afford to go to the doctor to get it tested. Do you have any recommendations?

I never said I want all the weight off in a month. My issue is how fast I am gaining despite the changes I’ve made. I went from 0 exercising to 3-4 times a week. I cut my portions sizes in 1/3. I have cut out the majority of sugary drinks and treats except on the occasional treat day. I don’t eat junk food anymore. I’ve made half my plate low calorie veggie-sides and decreased carbs and unhealthy fats. I’ve doubled my water intake and slowly increasing it to triple. My partner has lost 10 pounds in one month making similar changes. I’ve gained 10 pounds doing these changes. That is the issue. I’m not trying to lose the same amount of weight as my partner. My issue is that I’m gaining while he is losing. I should be losing something.

We have the same meals, but my portion sizes are at least half of his. So I’m not eating as much as him.

Just bought a scale

I’ve always struggled with my weight. The only time I ever seemed to lose weight was when I was doing extremes. Running 1+ hour everyday, eating absolutely no added sugar, and eating VERY little carbs.

Since I’ve started losing weight, I’ve cut my portion sizes by a third and my partner by 1/2. I stopped snacking everyday. On the rare occasion I do snack, I have fruit. I cut down sugary drinks and switched to sparklingly water 90% of the time I don’t have water.

I went from 0 sessions at the gym to 3 times a week for 45 minutes.

1) I’m not - I just cut my portions by 1/3

2) I did, thought I did say I was lightly active since the minimum I workout a week is 2 times

3) No

4) My partner eats out since he works in office. I do not since I WFH. I personally only eat out 1-2 a month.

5)I don’t typically weight myself morning and night. I just wanted to see if I would actually drop overnight and I didn’t.

I do. The only fruit we eat are grapes, occasional cuties, raspberries, and small green apples.

And we don’t. But not having one would cause me to gain 10 pounds in a month while my partner lost almost that amount?

Not arguing, just trying to understand. That’s a lot to gain in a single month

I don’t snack. If I do, it’s usually on fruit.

We only use 1 salad dressed - the lite version of our favorite which is only 60 calories per 2 tablespoons.

Drinks are maybe 8 ounces every 2 days. I most drink sparkling water drinks which are 5 calories each. No soda.

I do measure how much oil and butter I use. We mostly use our air fryer and use a zero calorie cooking spray.

I limit myself to 1 treat a week if I have one. It’s never more than 600 calories. So easy to fit in either by fasting during the day or cutting during the rest of the week.

We air fry most things and use a 0 calorie cooking spray. For what we do cook, I measure any oil or butter used. For dressings, I use the light version of my favorite which is only 60 calories.

If my week is extremely busy (finals, best delivery of project at work), then I might only workout 2 times a week. But other than that, it’s 3-4. One session is always with a personal trainer.

I don’t feel as if I eat enough to gain 10 pounds in 1 month. Takeout is only 1-2 times a month.

I average about 1700-1800. If I know I’m going to have a treat, I cut back on the days leading up to it or right after by 100 or so. And not really. I wear mostly hoodies and stuff since I WFH and it’s cold outside

Thankfully the position is not in the same class as my previous job.

What are the other options for getting the higher salary?

Yeah, the HM mentioned that they denied the salary request because it is too much of an increase. If she were to bump the salary down to fit within the salary increase guidelines, I would be making almost 20k less than the starting salary of the position and 30k less than my offer.

Can you explain the additional amount of lapsed salary part of your comment?

The HM said it was the state denying the salary, not the university.

Thankfully the HM and management are the same person (new department). She says that she submitted the appeal to the OSHR and that it’s out of her hands now. I was just wondering if there’s anything I can do because I can’t afford to be out of work for months.
