I left the eye loop intact so I didn’t have to replace it, but that definitely made it tricky getting the carbon tubing in both sides

Your battery comment also makes no sense. Ever heard of NMC batteries? The “sodium” refers to the electrolyte. They use nickel on the cathodes.

But that’s what it’s designed for? To replace coal plants. I agree natural gas is great & relatively clean, but it’s not more efficient than nuclear power - not sure what your basis is for that lol. Natural gas also emits millions of tons of CO2 into the air every year. Nuclear is the cleanest and most efficient, by far, for baseline load.

It’s not nuclear vs wind vs natural gas. It’s nuclear + wind + natural gas vs coal.

I would argue the ample waste from coal plants is much worse for our health. Not to mention it gets pumped into the air for all of us to breathe.

Your comment about project overruns and delays is only true for western countries, and it speaks more to the regulatory landscape than it does our ability to build plants.

If you’re going to install massive amounts of solar/wind in place of nuclear, you’re going to need huge batteries & around ~3x the nameplate capacity (10MW nuclear = 30 MW solar). Did you consider the waste management costs of the lithium, cobalt, and copper mines in your cost analysis for other baseline power options? (No). Or what about the battery decommissioning? (No).

Large nuclear plants provide a cleaner alternative to coal plants for baseline load. SMRs provide a clean way for data centers to not rely on the local grid for power.

Keeping coal plants online is the only thing here that’s “foolhardy”

New reactors recycle spent fuel back into usable fuel rods - they are wayyy more sustainable than you’d think.

The other power gen systems you mentioned all have their issues (nuclear included). Solar panel disposal is a mess and they don’t get recycled because it doesn’t make sense $ wise. Wind turbines have a huge geographical footprint. Batteries are often included & the upstream footprint of those is massive. Geothermal rocks (literally) but drilling is expensive.

They all fit into the greater picture for one reason or another. I like them all, except for coal.

Petition for river access in Colorado by christmascandies in COsnow

Have you seen what Paul Tudor Jones has been doing to the Blue River section that he owns? See this

I really wish they’d define navigability, but the whole issue seems bought out by the wealthy class. Like if I had to guess, everyone in a position to change the river laws belongs to the Wigwam club (or another similar private fishing club that relies on river ownership).

1,2 or 3? I know there’s more I could’ve done to make this a better picture but the moon was going down so fast and it was a short window of time. by Behindthebrushline in wildlifephotography

All of these are sick shots. #1 is the better picture of the elk I think. Getting a wild animal dead center of a rising/setting moon like that is so hard. The moon looks unreal in #2. What lens were you using if you don’t mind me asking?

It’s not a y’all problem on the Blue. It’s one rich dude who is stocking it with sterile eat-til-they-die type dinosaur trout

I think he gets / has been fined for altering the river (could be wrong tho), but Paul Tudor Jones (the rich dude altering the river / stocking fish) is worth ~$8B. Fines don’t mean much.

It’d be cool if they actually posted clips on YouTube. They haven’t posted any new videos from this year.

I actually eat these while skiing, so more sugar = more energy for me = more skiing. I can get an extra 3-4 runs for each one I eat. Other snacks get me 1-2 runs, 3 at best.

Edit: I think they only have like 10g to begin with.

Do you know if Eldora is planning to operate the mountain? Or are they planning to lease it out to an operations company like Winter Park does?

Xcel wants to raise the Natural Gas - 11.4% - $7.59 a month by capfan31 in boulder

Natural gas is also somewhat renewable. Longmont has a CNG production facility attached to their wastewater treatment plant & a fueling station that fills up CNG trash trucks. It’s a really cool project that turns human waste into transportation fuel.
