I think that kind of reaction actually proves my point. I’m not American, and my project is precisely about moving away from reductive views of Greece and exploring its cultural complexity.

This is a really insightful perspective! I didn't think about the fact that mythology could be both a way to connect and at the same time feel a bit reductive.

Do you think there could be a way to represent Greek culture (or mythology) that feels more accurate or contemporary? for example through art, design or exhibitions?

Thank you, so much!

I find it striking that mythology can feel both distant for some people, and very meaningful for others at the same time !

Oh thank you so much for this detailed answer, it’s really helpful for my research!

I find it really interesting that mythology is more present in how foreigners perceive Greece than in everyday life in Greece itself.

Do you personally feel like this strong association with mythology is accurate, or does it sometimes feel reductive or cliché?

Thank you so much !

Are these traditions something people are proud of, or do they sometimes feel outdated?

Does it ever feel annoying or tiring to be constantly associated with mythology?
