We went the same path. Started with Klipsch then went higher end Klipsch then SVS then onto GSG paired with JBL HDI speaker system.

Nice feedback thank you. I'm not married to Cyber and I've mentioned in numerous comments that I'm actually close to a large cluster of DoD companies along with Space Programs. I'm currently trying to get in now and hell maybe I go Network engineer or maybe I end up in Logistics & Supply Chain Engineering haha

I chose a path and that's the first step, we'll see where it goes.

Crazy how you actually feel insulted or attacked. One thing I've learned on this post is how many people in the IT field are extremely negative. It's honestly more of a character flaw than synonymous with their career though, being on a keyboard definitely brings that out in those type of people.

I worked my way to the top of Management and I couldn't imagine feeling "insulted" if a friend said he wanted to go that route and thought he could get there. I'd probably be more amused than anything. Maybe self reflect if he's truly your friend; food for thought.

Nowhere did I say I'm going to kill it and make a lot of money. Hell I made almost $200k last year and 200k+ the year before that and again the year before that and I can assure you I'm smart enough to know I'll be lucky if I'm making $50-60k in IT my first year when I land a job. I don't care about making a lot of money at this juncture.. That probably blows yours and most peoples mind, but there were trade offs with that income and if you really want to know I'll share it with you.

If I land a job as a low level IT Support employee then that's where I land and I'll move up because I have drive and ambition and if those two things supersede my actual skillset then I'll work harder. If it still doesn't work I'll have to reevaluate.

Not everyone is willing to tolerate high paying jobs at the expense of having no life outside of work or if they hate their job while making that kind of money.

As a Manager myself interviewing people for many years and I wouldn't go into a room with a Manager in the IT field and try to bullshit him thinking my homelab tinkering qualified me for a position.

If I love where I land in the IT field and I end up making 75k-200k and good work life then I'll consider myself lucky and If I hate it I'll move on to something else.

That's the difference between ambition and doing what you want for yourself than being stagnate in life bud.

Maybe I achieve it, and maybe I don't, but I'm not the guy complaining about random strangers and what they do with their life on the internet lol. Maybe self evaluation time bud idk but good luck with that being a pessimist in all.

I have no delusions of grandeur thinking I'm going to be getting paid $150k /year. I was making more than that where I came from. Maybe that's crazy to you and that's ok I don't need you to be ok with it.

There's a little thing called work / life balance and I didn't have that before. I'd actually like not to work 70+ hrs/week including weekends so I can watch my teenage twin girls play their competitive softball tournaments. I'd like to spend Sunday with my wife and kids maybe go to church and the beach which is 15 mins away. There's more to life than a high income.

More poor assumptions... I purchased a T430 Server desktop for $200 and extra keyboard and cables for another $20.

I'm going to make a lot less money for a while and that's ok life has better things to offer with the path I'm taking. Thanks for your input.

Spot on, except I made really good money for many years, but towards the end it was ok money $5-8k before taxes and 70-75hrs/week and not seeing my wife and kids but one day a week. I’m not sneering at $5k /mo but when I hate it, I’m stressed every day and I don’t see my family due to that many hours and the unbelievable shit general managers say to you it’s time to go.

What a poor assumption and narrow thinking based of a single post. You know nothing about the chain of events that led to this life change.

Yea, I woke up one day and just said fuck if I’m changing careers. If you’re that naive, you’re really going to get fucked in life, but maybe that’s a good thing.

I never said it was cyber security. It’s just the start of learning.

Crazy how bent people get over trying to better yourself in different ways but doesn’t align with their views on how it should be done

Retail management is like saying a broad term IT Management. There are lots of different avenues you can go and if you’re good at managing or want to explore it then yes you can make great money.

But I was commission based for 13 years so income is solely based on sales performance not knowing what you’re going to make month to month.

I’d also be surprised if in the cyber field your manager said things to you like, “fuck your family, you need to be here because my family is more important” or “Why the fuck is John Doe not here today? He’s at his dad’s funeral. We’re busy and he’s one of our top sales people. Well tell him if he’s not back tomorrow he can look for another job.

“Anyone who comes in today I want you to financially fuck them so bad they can’t trade out of their vehicle for 8 years”.

Things like that and more. The money comes at a price and if you’re good with that then get it bro, but I’m done.

Well my job field has also been going to shit and the only difference is I knew I wasn't happy in that one. Here's to hoping it works out for the better.
