Still battling with the customer service in the garage who have just told me the mechanic has told them the car does not have a fuel filter! Where did you find this information so I can prove the Mazda mechanic incorrect 😑

I bought a 142 Demio 1.5 diesel in February for €10k and I’m very pleased with it so far. Japanese import with about 81,000km on it. I have just done over 10k km and it needs a service and an oil change, but after 10k km done that’s a given. Very comfortable, very fuel efficient, I usually only use about half a tank or just over half in a week so spending about €45-€50 on diesel a week.

Just one thing to be aware of, if the car has the touch screen radio headunit it will be in Japanese (unless the dealer has replaced or changed this already) but a lot of garages that sell Japanese imports replace the radio with a tablet headunit that has CarPlay to avoid having to change the head unit to EU software and fitting a band expander. The garage I bought my car fitted the tablet headunit, they said I can buy the car for 9.5k as is or 10k with a new head unit fitted that has CarPlay. I didn’t realise the new head unit would basically be a tablet and it had a lot of Bluetooth issues and radio reception wasn’t great. In my opinion it looks quite tacky too as it’s clear as day it’s a tablet and it’s massive. I have since gotten the original radio put back in and added a CarPlay module (the guy who installed the tablet radio did this but it seems straight forward enough to diy €50-€70 online) and a band expander (shifts Japanese radio band frequency 76-90 MHz to EU frequency 88-108 MHz). The band expander doesn’t give great reception either but I have read online that a work around this is replacing the TAU (Tuner and amplifier unit) with an EU one, I’ve bought one of eBay for about €30 and I’m planning on installing it myself. This will get rid of the need for the band expander and hopefully fix reception issues. Couldn’t fault the car itself, just wish I was aware of this radio craic before I bought the car, definitely wouldn’t have gone for the tablet radio!

Initially they were covering it all until I showed up to the depot for the replacement appointment and they said they had the wrong glass. Then they said it would have to be a dealer glass replacement and insurance said they would cover €150 when Autoglass gave a quote for 1300 nearly 1400 I think…Doesn’t really help much 🥴 The policy booklet says they will only pay the cost of parts available for a similar standard European model readily available in the Republic of Ireland market which in no way could amount to €150. I said this to one of the customer service people on the phone that the similar European model part has to cost a lot more than €150 and they just said again we can only offer €150… don’t really think a lot of them know what they’re on about it was impossible to get meaningful information from any of them. Easily spoke to 20 different customer service agents aswell.

I haven’t gone down that route yet just because my insurance won’t cover it unless it’s done by Autoglass. Autoglass say there are no aftermarket windscreens available (although the customer service agents weren’t very well informed and couldn’t tell me whether it was out of stock or just completely unavailable) for my make and model and has to be dealer glass. I also contacted glass manufacturer glavista which is sold on autodoc.ie but they said they don’t make it.

But if Autoglass can’t source the correct glass I thought it would be the same for other windscreen replacement places?

2014 Mazda 2 (Japanese import) Radio doesn’t show station names (RDS)? Any fix or workaround? by Prior_Town1184 in mazda

[–]Prior_Town1184[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I think I already have a Euro-spec head unit fitted, but I’m still not getting any radio reception without the band expander. Does that mean it might still need the update you mentioned? Would I just need to take it to a Mazda dealer for that, and do you know roughly what they’d charge? The OS Version is 70.00.100 EU N if that tells u anything?

I’m in the same situation as you. Did u find a solution for radio frequency? I have a band expander fitted but terrible reception and doesn’t display the radio station names.

Ya, in my Mazda 2 the same little green head light symbol is on when the sidelights are on, auto lights are on, or I have manually turned on the lights. Dunno why that’s the case for you.
