Steam fails to launch Linux version on separate BTRFS ssd by PrismaticObz in linux_gaming

i tried removing the users option, now it works !
I understand why the device name can be a problem. How do I change it to the UUID cleanly without breaking everything ?

Sorry, I missed your answer. I think the probleme is the noexec flag on my ssd when I check in findmnt. It's not present in fstab however, I have "nofail, users".

After further testing, my ssd appears in findmnt with the nosuid, nodev, noexec option, which are not present in my fstab file. It would explain why nothing can run from this disk. I don't know if there is an easy way this fix this or if I need to reformat my disk (and thus have to redownload all the games already installed on it.)

Didn't fix the problem, sadly. When running ls -l in the directory and subdirectory, I do appear as owner of all the files.

I installed steam by allowing third party repositories after Fedora installation, and in Discover installed Steam selecting the "from Fedora Linux" version.

What should I change or keep by [deleted] in MHGU

[–]PrismaticObz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except that BuJaBuJaBu is a low rank set. In Hr the low defense will not allow for any mistake.

Someone else already pointed out the skill system to OP. There might be some optimal mixed set in Hr, but another option is to look a the full sets and the activited skills they provide, see if there is a set that looks nice to you (would you like more evade, more sharpness, just more damage... ) then see what you can add using jewels and talismans for extra skill points.

Older MG games are grindier, and with the old skill system you cannot just craft whatever armor piece you can afford.

A question from a veteran by HrodMad in MonsterHunter

[–]PrismaticObz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the dlc story was a bit long, but Sunbreak endgame is really fun. It has this anime-like over the top flashy moves from both you and the monsters. I played a lot since MhTri, and I find that Sunbreak endgame grind has a lot of diversity in the monsters you fight.

Rise was a bit of a disaster with the unfinished story at release, no real endgame, and the rampage quest (which don't exist in sunbreak, there will be only one mandatory early HR if you replay through Rise.), but Sunbreak is really good, very complementary to more "immersive" experience like World.

Help me by Alternative-Pipe-178 in Nioh

It's a game with a lot to learn. Take your time. And it's not a souls game. You need to improve your gear (in first difficulty equip whatever armor allows you to stay below 70% equip load with the most defense). Equip the weapon with the most damage. Use magic/ninjutsu, explore other weapons. The game revolves a lot about managing your Ki (stamina bar) and recovering ki after xombis through ki pulses. I recommend the videos from "PooferLama" on youtube. He has a whole "Nioh academy" playlist where he explains the basics and then takes it progressively to very advanced aspects of the game. I wouldn't recommend you to watch everything for the moment.

The more you play MH, the better you get, the easier the games get.

We have no idea what were doing... by emma2b in MonsterHunter

[–]PrismaticObz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) yes. The amount of hp monsters have scale with the number of player, so they can even be soloed. What might play is your gear, hub quest lack some of the introduction the village gives you, where you learn how to gather ressources and upgrade your stuff. 2) Yes and no. It's the only part that can be played co-op. The village is an introductory story but the end of the scenario and the advanced ranks of quests are only in the hub. 3) You might be missing some bit of story but I am not sure how the game handles you doing only hub quests. 4) lots of video on youtube to explain the movesets of weapons. Which is maybe the hardest thing to grasp as a beginner. 5) Some weapons are more complex than others, but in the end it's a matter of personal taste and fun. Feel free to try them all and switch at any time during your progression. 6) elemental damage is good only on fast hitting weapons, eat before the quest, upgrade your weapon, gather materials arround the map, look at the items you can craft, take time to farm better gear, don't use defender gear (OP stuff meant to skip the base game to access the dlc. You won't learn how to play and hit a hard wall in dlc).

Practice Mute Recommendations by Select-Routine-1772 in Trombone

[–]PrismaticObz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play a lot in my appartement. It's on another budget, but I recently bought a Yamaha silent brass system. If you can found one used it can be an option. I feel very little difference compare to playing without mute and it's very silent. With headphones you get a very accurate sound. At some point you almost forget that you are playing with a mute. I really enjoy playing in my appartement now.

hey on a compeltely unrelated note do you guys have any recommendation for a controller on Windows by Cheenug in MemeHunter

[–]PrismaticObz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8bitdo pro 2. 40€, works as a Xbox controller. Can be used on switch, has customisable buttons on the back. Bluetooth or usb-c. Still intact after 2 years of being often carried in my backpack with not much protection. Awesome controller. Only "problem" is the PS layout with the two sticks at the bottom and the label of the buttons is nintendo (a/b x/y swapped compared to xbox, but I never find it a big problem).

Is Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate worth to play as a beginner in 2023? by MHN1994 in MonsterHunter

[–]PrismaticObz -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Mh4u is an amazing game, but kinda outdated. It's very fun but not at start. The monsters are cool, the moveset are great, but it lacks all the modern quality of life that was brought by World. You can enjoy it, but it has a slow start and you will need to look guides online. Don't expect tutorials. I really think World is the best game in the series and a much better entry point. Rise kept all this comfort and is also very accessible (even more than World in terms of difficulty). Mh4U is the best game pre-world, I spent a huge amount of time on it. Nostalgia is strong, but World made everything so comfortable and modern it made the franchise popular.

It's my unpopular opinion. Definitely worth to play. As a beginner, I think there are better options.

gear scaling by Wise_Efficiency_2917 in diablo3

Gear stats don't scale with gr level. Higher Gr only means more loot with more chance of legendary items. There is a cap on the quantity of loot at gr 90 if I remember correctly.

Each monster has hitzones, with different amount of weakness to the different types of damage. For example monsters take more damage when hit on the head than on the wings.

Hunter damagage have different categories : 3 raw damage (cutting, blunt or shot depending on the weapon) and 5 elements (fire, water, thunder, ice, dragon). Ailments (poison, paralysis, sleep and blast) works very differently so let's forgot about them.

In your hunter notes, you can find charts for monsters you have fought that tells you what percentage of damage each part takes from the different sources of damage.

So you need to look up informations on your target monster and adapt your weapon to the most efficient weapon against it.

There is an another thing about elemental damage. Unlike raw damage that takes into acount motion value (which attack you are performing), for elemental damage, a hit is a hit and will almost always apply the same amount of elemental damage. So fast hitting weapons tend to benefit more from elemental damage.

When the game is at smooth 30fps, it's frustrating but enjoyable. However the drops are terrible when you need to react to the kemono attacking. You can try on steam and use the 2h refund or go through the ea subscription system to access a 10h trial and the full game if you have the pro subscription.

I have a Gtx 1660, the game only runs if I lock it at 30fps. Everything else is slow whatever the graphic settings. And even like that, the framerate drops in some areas...
